I agree, I hadn't heard either album before yesterday, I was expecting J Dilla's album to be better just because of his rep in hip hop and most people don't even know who Edan is, but after listening, Edan's album is WAYYYYY better
The Shining started off pretty good for me, but Love, Jungle Love, Love Movin, Guilty Simpson and MED brought the album down for me
I loved the psychedelic production on Edan's album, plus Edan's sick rapping, Beauty and the Beat did start off a bit meh for me but once i got to Fumbling Over Words That Rhyme it was sick as fuck all the way
i actually liked "Love" and Guilty Simpson has a verse on The Shining that is, imo, one of his few verses that actually impresses me (the one about pissing lava and all that lol), but besides that i agree entirely with you comment. BATB didn't get interesting until "Fumbling Over Words That Rhyme" but once it does, that track in addition to tracks like "Torture Chamber", "Beauty", "Rock & Roll", etc., make your jaw drop the whole way through.
