Y-Society

Y Society is a Hip-Hop duo made up of producer Damu the Fudgemunk, from
Washington D.C., and underground Emcee by the name of Insight, from
Boston, MA. Damu was previously the DJ for Panacea before their break
up in 2006. Insight has been in the hip-hop scene not only as a rapper
but a respected producer as well for over 10 years.
The duo released their debut album "Travel At Your Own Pace" on October
10, 2007. The album is reminiscent to early 90s Hip-Hop with the sounds
of jazzy tunes and sampled beats. Check out Travel At Your Own Pace if
you haven't already. Here's a link to one of their Vids "Never Off (On

Damu The Fudgemunk

Damu the Fudgemunk, One half of the group "Y-Society" and also the
mixed for the group "Panacea" Damu is currently signed to Tres Records.
Born and raised in Washington, D.C., Damu started out as an Emcee
in Junior High School with a friend. They needed beats, so he started
buying records and tried to loop them up. With nothing but a turntable
and a mixer, he had started his first project as a DJ. From that point
on he claims to have been a "record nerd."
Damu uses an MPC2000
with the standard 2megs of memory, instead of sampling CD's, he samples
Records. Damu claims to have over 8,000 records laying around his
place.

Damu and Emcee "Insight" make up the group "Y-Society"
As spoken by Damu himself : "I met him back in 2004, he was on tour
with Edan, Procussions, it was the Don’t Sleep tour. I met up with him,
I was too young to get into the club, but when he came out I was
playing my beats outside and I gave him a CD. One of their promoters
had a show the next day which was 45 minutes away from D.C. in
Baltimore, and the promoter snuck me into that show and we got a chance
to build. Me, him and Edan just talked and everything and ever since
then we kept in touch. The album came about when I started working with
Panacea. Tres came to the video shoot to talk business with me, I
wanted to do an instrumental album but they didn’t want to do any at
the time; it was all business. I had some instrumental records and they
just said I needed to get with an MC and then they’d talk. I called up
Insight."

Born in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, he migrated to the U.S. at an early
age and has lived in New York, California (Seaside), and currently
Boston . To Insight Hip-Hop is a faction of the mind. It was not
something that he merely dabbled in as a hobby, but also, experimented
on and redesigned in his cerebral laboratory; dissecting it's organ
structure to understand it's socio political dynamics and survival
mechanisms in order to recreate or rather engineer a stronger sound. It
was the way he thought. Insight has worked for 15 years as an MC,
Producer, DJ, and has polished himself into a well balanced hip-hop
composer. His talents also include web design, animation, painting, and
programing which all satisfy his creative thirst. Sight handles most of
his own business including music consulting and executive production
for many other companies, radio and TV stations. His production skills
are displayed when; with accurate drum programing on the Akai MPC 3000,
he shapes sound with his unique sense of swing and sample style. He
will record himself, add his own scratches and cuts then engineer and
press his own record.
