Afrika Bambaataa, Kool DJ Red Alert, and The Original Jazzy Jay reunite on the wheels of steel for the first time in over 25 years. Many have neglected the fact these individuals are primarily responsible for the genesis of hip hop culture.
Noisemaker Media's Mark Carranceja was at the right place and at the right time to capture this historic moment in hip hop history.

Black Thought Speaks on Roots Album; Solo Projects

Black Thought from Strictly Fitteds on Vimeo.

I'm in a lot of people's Top 5, I appreciate it.”
For those that might have gotten things a little misconstrued about The Roots, they are still a group ready to deliver hear for Hip Hop. Being the house band for Late Night With Jimmy Fallon is just a platform to present the masses with what most already knew in regards to their music.
As the group is gearing up to release their ninth studio album How I Got Over, which is scheduled to hit shelves in February, the front man known as Black Thought has been planning his own separate ventures.
A formidable lyricist in his own rights, Thought has always been looked at and many have wondered why he never dropped a solo project. The time has come now as the Philadelphia native is looking to expand on a project that he started back in 2006.
Partnering up with producer Danger Mouse, the duo is in the process of creating a project known as Dangerous Thoughts, although no date to expect the collaborative effort has been released.
Thought has also banded together some cohorts in his city and created another group known as the Money Makin' Jam Boys, so expect to be hearing some noise from them in the near future.
*Brief history lesson: Black Though actually recorded a solo project known as Masterpiece Theatre back in 2001, but the album was scrapped. Most of the songs, however, demoed for it found their way onto Phrenology.

Joell Ortiz Readies Second Solo Album For March Release

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Slaughterhouse member, Joell Ortiz, is gearing up for the release of a brand new album for March, titled Free Agent.

It will be the first album from the former Aftermath recording artist, since dropping the indie The Brick: Bodega Chronicles shortly after signing Dre's label back in 2007.

The upcoming album will be released through E1 Music, formerly Koch Records, and will feature a slew of producers and guests, including Akon, Brother Ali, Bun B, Styles P, Sheek Louch, Raekwon, Talib Kweili and Maino, among others.

Production duties will be handled by the likes of Red Spyda, DJ Khalil, Lil Fame, DJ Premier, MoSS, Nottz, and several others.

"Joell Ortiz is one the hottest new emcees to come out of New York. We had a lot of success with the first Joell release and are very excited he continues to be in the E1 family," said Alan Grunblatt, General Manager of E1 Music.

The first single off Free Agent is "Call Me," a nostalgic story of teenage love set in Brooklyn New York in the '90s. It will be serviced to urban radio shortly.

Ortiz is coming off a tour of the U.S. and is starting a European tour on Jan 15th, as 1/4 of the lyrical powerhouse Slaughterhouse, along with Joe Budden, Royce Da 5'9 and Crooked I. The foursome was described as "...the game's most imposing lyrical force" by XXL magazine. The self-titled debut album, Slaughterhouse, is in stores now.

Ortiz's debut album, The Brick was met with considerable critical acclaim, when it dropped in 2007, helping the rapper land features in numerous hip-hop and mainstream publications including a much sought after "Leader of the New School" cover story for XXL, alongside Papoose, Crooked I, Saigon, Lupe Fiasco and others.
