DMC World DJ Championships 2010 - Sunday 17th October and Monday 18th October @ KOKO, London! Promo Video

Throughout their rich, undeniable heritage, the DMC DJ Championships have been, and still are the authority on the DJ – and all of the scratching, mixing and trend setting that has accompanied the disc jockey from humble roots to stadium status. The DMC’s annual World DJ Championship competition continually brings together the world’s brightest DJ talents, vetted by a series of gruelling global heats. By doing so, DMC continues to host one of the most entertaining and jaw dropping shows you will ever witness. 26 years of this prestigious competition later, and DMC keeps on spinning…

The hard fought UK Finals on the 15th July decided two battle worthy competitors to represent their country against the best in the world in October. Last year’s UK champ DJ Jeppa re-took the UK Finalist crown, and Deceptikut scratched his way to victory in the Battle For UK Supremacy. In order to become a DMC World Champion, both of these talented gentlemen will have to face DJs from around the world using techniques such as
scratching and cutting to manipulate turntables and vinyl in order to create their own musical arrangements, performing live in front of an enthusiastic audience filled with both the extremely knowledgeable DMC fans and lucky newcomers being initiated to this fantastic contest.

With a few months to go, the very special line up for the nights is still yet to be announced, but DMC can reveal two choice attractions that will be definitely be appearing alongside the competition. Firstly – DJ Woody’s AV extravaganza ‘Turntables In Technicolour’ will be performed, with extra special footage of Tony Prince worked into the routine. It will be without a doubt one of the most awe inspiring and frankly impressive AV shows you will ever see. Secondly, in a slight diversion from the DJaying of the evening – DMC will host a very special UK versus France Beatbox battle – just to show that the Anglo-France rivalry still exists even in the hip hop realm…

With World Championship winners over the years including the superstar likes of the Scratch Perverts, A-Trak (Kanye West’s DJ), Q Bert, Craze and Mixmaster Mike (Beastie Boys), fame and respect could well accompany the bountiful prizes on offer. The current world champion, DJ Shiftee is not only an incredible DJ, but a Harvard graduate, adding to the rich blend of backgrounds that the DMC champs hail from.

Highlights from the legendary B-Boy Summit in 1999

Highlights from the legendary B-Boy Summit in 1999 presented by No Easy Props. "Somethin' That Means Somethin'" performed by The Pharcyde for Delicious Vinyl Records.

What is the Bboy Summit?

The Bboy Summit continues to be the major trendsetter in Hip-Hop street dance, art and music lifestyle culture. Established in 1994, the Summit sprang forth-innovative ideas in Hip-Hop culture, offering a conference forum complete with competitions, performances, panels, workshops, and marketplace for new consumer friendly products marketed towards the Hip-Hop lifestyle community. Never content with success, the Bboy Summit continues its mission to bring the hottest street dance, art, and music above ground to the masses. Hailed as one of the best events in history, that unveils new, dynamic concepts in the dance, art and music of Hip-Hop influenced hybrid lifestyle culture.

The Bboy Summit was created in 1994 due to a need for a community orientated Hip-Hop Event that encompassed knowledge of the history of Hip-Hop Culture with the skills of Bboying and Bgirling (breaking or break dancing). At that point in time Bboys and Bgirls did not have their own platform in which to come together, dance and pay homage to the traditional dance of Hip-Hop. Each year the event has expanded to encompass Bboys, Bgirls, MCs, Aerosol Artists, and DJs from around the world, steadily building into what is now the foremost Hip-Hop cultural event in the world. Equally, the Summit is proud to be considered one of the most important events for Lockers, Poppers, Freestyle and House Dancers to journey too to take part in the annual Funk Fest at the Bboy Summit. The impact the Bboy Summit Event has had globally is insurmountable, most importantly contributing the transmission of Bboy Bgirl style of dance, as well as street dance in general to the new generation. Without an understanding of the roots and culture of Hip-Hop, the youth of today would not be able to expand on it, further developing the styles into futuristic trends of tomorrow.

Now in our 13th year the Bboy Summit has grown into an internationally acclaimed 3 day festival incorporating all aspects of Hip-Hop in different plateaus, from the most intense battle competitions, the rawest circles, to the most prestigious theatre performance, infamous DJ/MC Talent showcase, and live aerosol art painting, each element of Hip-Hop combining together to make the cipher complete.

Rakim addresses Nas situation, talks new Stephen Marley collaboration

Rakim talks to HardKnock.Tv's Nick Huff Barili about the reaction he received from putting out his last album "The Seventh Seal" and he addresses the media exaggerated beef with Nas. Ra goes on to let out the secret that he has been working with Stephen Marley (the generators of his trailer shut down and we lost all the light as soon as he makes announcement, definitely felt like their was a higher energy in the room). When asked if him and Nas could work together in the future, Rakim responds that through the Marley camp maybe him and Nas will do a song together. Lastly he says that if he were to do a song about one person like Nas did of him, Rakim would do it on Muhammad Ali.

Here is the interview where Rakim spoke on Nas "Unauthorized Biography" song

CELPH TITLED & BUCKWILD TRANSPORT YOU TO NINETEEN NINETY NOW (Tracklist)

Nineteen Ninety Now Features Appearances From Treach, Vinnie Paz, Apathy, Diamond D, Sadat X, Grand Puba, Chino XL, Esoteric, A.G, R.A. The Rugged Man & O.C

Its finally here and a hip-hop renaissance is about to begin showing that the lessons from the past can be combined with the innovations of the present, as Celph Titled and Buckwild have joined forces to create a neo-classic with Nineteen Ninety Now; bringing the art form full-circle through this groundbreaking collaboration. By having uninhibited access to legendary producer Buckwild’s original mid-90’s production, Celph Titled was able to select and record to over 16 unreleased bangers; bringing his charismatic flow and lyrical prowess to each one.

Nineteen Ninety Now is more than a collaboration of great minds with impeccable taste; it’s also the long awaited debut album from Celph Titled, who already has gained a huge underground following as a core member of Jedi Mind Tricks' Army of the Pharaohs crew, his own trademark Demigodz releases and his involvement in Mike Shinoda’s Fort Minor project. While Celph is a producer in his own right, the chance to work with Buckwild and actually have the opportunity to capture the lost sound of the 90’s by utilizing vintage tracks from Buckwild’s vault that have never been heard before was a no-brainer---and here’s why. Multi-platinum producer Buckwild from the legendary Diggin’ In The Crates crew (D.I.T.C.) has produced countless classics over the last two decades for artists ranging from Artifacts, 50 Cent, Big L, Brand Nubian, CNN, Faith Evans, Fat Joe, Jadakiss, Diddy, The Game, Redman, Shyne, Swizz Beatz, Big Pun and Jay-Z. To boot, he’s also the producer behind indelible classics from Notorious B.I.G (“I Got A Story To Tell”), Black Rob (“Whoa”), O.C. (“Times Up”) and Organized Konfusion (“Stress”).

Revisiting the classic SP-1200 and Akai-S950 sound that reigned supreme in Hip-Hop’s “Golden Era,” the beats on Nineteen Ninety Now were originally produced by Buckwild between the years of 1994-1995--but never recorded to. Buckwild fondly recalls what it was like to dig back into those crates “although I've stayed ahead of the times as a producer, it was a lot of fun to load up these old disks. Joints I forgot I even had, stuff I haven't heard in 15-years. It was definitely a welcomed experiment that turned out amazing. Further, he comments on the concept he and Celph embarked on and its possibilities in the future “essentially this is a concept album that’s a first of its kind. I wanted to be able to resurrect a 90's sound that once was and combine it with 2010 rhymes. I consider this album to be monumental because it could literally not only change the game, but change the way people feel. Dudes complain about the game but they ain't doing anything. Nobody has done this concept before us. I wouldn't be surprised if this creates a demand for other MC's and producers who were around in the 90's to get together and dig through shoeboxes of floppy disks to feed the fans more of the lost sound they still crave for and I'm all for it.”

While Celph has enjoyed success with his Demigodz crew and all of his endeavors, it may surprise some that Nineteen Ninety Now is his true debut and the importance of this project was not lost on him, as he laments on how meticulous the recording process was for this project “We took three-years to construct this album. This is the project I've always wanted to do. To have my debut solo-album produced entirely by a legend like Buckwild can't be topped in my mind. My first album is always going to be looked at as a masterpiece to all my fans.”

Celph also comments on why harkening back into this very specific time period of Hip-Hop is moving forward and not backward “It's actually refreshing to hear authentic beats produced in the 90's finally unveiled. It reminds you of all the dope production methods and sounds that are no longer used today. Nineteen Ninety Now takes you right back to that feeling--even if it's just for one album.”

Celph Titled and Buckwild will release Nineteen Ninety Now on 10-26-2010 on No Sleep Recordings.
