btw why is the "New School" so short, and how is the "Curent Age in hip hop" not "New School"?

and why is the Current Age such a long time span, 1997-2009???

the book i have refers to the 1997-present period as the New World Order

why is the "New School" so short

because the golden age ended in 1993/1994 (which was marked by the end of the serious amounts of amazing albums dropping like "36 Chambers" and "The Chronic" pretty much one after another) and hip hop began to go into a downward slope towards heavy commercialization in 1997.

Quote (EmSeeD)
how is the "Curent Age in hip hop" not "New School"

because the current age is marked by ridiculously heavy commercialization with subsequent heavy emphasis on underground hip hop while in the time span of 1993/94 - 1997 the art form was still prospering without being completely compromised by commercialism whereas after that period it became completely commercial thanks to Puff Daddy.

why is the Current Age such a long time span

because it is yet to be defined. that is the main gripe i have with this video. how can you define a time span we are currently in? we may soon want to make a distinction somewhere, but we don't yet know where. when a new thing comes about we will find it's roots probably somewhere in 2003 or something.
