People should be allowed to believe whatever to make them feel better. In biology we trick our bodies in order to get better, we can do the same thing to our mind, as long as it doesn't get out of hand. A fuckton of people's life quality would drop a whole lot if we'd burst their bubble.

i don't think you understand what secular means..

Quote (Greeny)
You can't discuss religion in the same way you discuss politics. Politics governs this society, religion gives individuals peace.

I've lost track of what we're talking about.
Is it offensive to say christians are perfected jews? Yes, but if she'd chosen her words better, it wouldn't be. People get hung on "perfected".
Is it offensive to believe in hell? If you believe god is just and you think justice is good, yes, otherwise, I think not.
Is religion bad for society? Religion can be a virtue if used correctly, just like poison and ionized radiation. In current practice, mainly yes.

you're obfuscating this whole conversation. it is simple: J-Breakz was being prejudiced, saying that he doesn't think socialists deserve to be taken seriously simply because of their economic views. what Christians do is actually worse. they say people who don't believe as they do should not only not be taken seriously, they should be tortured for eternity.

They will, not should. Should implies it's their intention.

Maybe I am obfuscating this. I try to make myself as clear as possible..

Not in the sense I believe you are thinking of. Someone who is secular, for example, can be a Christian who just isn't very religious that is tolerant of other religions and atheism. It's not "non-religious". A better definition would be "worldly".

No, that is not what Christians believe. They believe that, according to God, atheists deserve eternal torment if they do not recant and, before they die, accept God as their Lord and Savior. They don't just believe this WILL happen, they believe this SHOULD happen, because God says so. Regardless of their reasoning for believing this, they do. I take offense to this.

I guess I was thinking something in the line of anti-religious, something more militant...

You're probably right, but to my experience people mostly believe in a righteous god, rather than a good god.

You confuse it with anti theism or even atheism, secularism when used in social contexts is synonymous with humanism, or more accurately "secular humanism". Many Christians and Muslims are humanists.
