Nerd Rap is, for example, MC Lars. I will post a song momentarily. The genre isn't pop but it's also a bit of a joke. Also, they forgot trip hop and industrial hip hop (or I'm just too lazy to look through that list).

Yes, I know, but that's like saying "reggae is a part of rock music." It's a completely retarded statement to make.

No, it's not "if I say it is," it is that exactly. Why? Because that is what it is musically. That isn't an opinion, it's a fact. Crunk music is strongly rooted in pop music and has very little roots in hip hop.

I actually see were your coming from now. Cause in 02-03 it was basically a trend. So I can see were you would say its Pop music...It has died down mainstream-wise since then tho...And by little roots in Hip Hop, you mean it doesnt really connect to Hip Hop culture right?

What I mean is that the only thing crunk and hip hop (as musical genres) have in common are their vocal cadence and style, the synth drums and heavy bass. Both very often involve a style of rapping, have synth drums, either made by a computer program or a drum machine, usually 808's, but that is usually the extent of the similarities. Hipster rap actually shares more in common with hip hop than crunk. In fact, most hipsters look up to artists such as Run DMC, GMF & The Furious 5, etc. and even create their music to sound similar to them. Crunk artists don't give a shit about old styles of hip hop and care completely about cash.
