We're putting together a list of top 5 hip hop albums from every year from 1984 all the way up until 2010. we're already doing it in the youtube group but we should use the other networks to contribute to the list too.

the way it will add up is the albums get 5 points if it gets named number 1, 4 points for being named 2, 3 points for number 3, 2 points for number 4 and 1 point for being named number 5 on peoples top 5 lists.

after the lists are drawn the top 2 albums from each year will be put against other albums in a tournament style brackets, we will have votes to see which album will come out as the greatest

ok heres my list

NWA - Straight Outta Compton
Slick Rick - The Great Adventures of Slick Rick
Eric B & Rakim - Follow The Leader
EPMD - Strictly Business
Public Enemy - It Takes A Nation of Millions To HOld Us Back

Straight Outta Compton

- an album which turned gangsta rap into a phenomenon and changed hip hop forever. great production from dr. dre far ahead of any other production at the time imo, but the rhymes were also ahead of most others too, apart from the likes of rakim & the juice crew thanks to the ghostwriting talents of a 19 year old D.O.C and Ice Cube. nwa were like a black version of the beastie boys who were the first to bring such explicit themes in hip hop, but NWA took it to a whole new extreme.

The Great Adventures of Slick Rick

- hilariously great album, best comic story teller making an very enjoyable album, dope production too

Follow The Leader

- after releasing the classic Paid In Full, you can hear how Rakim tries to solidify his spot against the rising lyrical competeition Big Daddy Kane, G Rap an EPMD by stepping up his rhymes even further lyrically by taking internal rhymes and multis to a level unheard of before in hip hop at the time. just like he did with his last album. album starts off with 3 battles rhyme tracks in a row with very hard pounding beats and aggressive delivery, very different from the laid back smooth style of his previous album, thankfully the album did mellow down after the 3 opening tracks follow the leader, microphone fiend and lyrics of fury. those mellow tracks however were not as good as those on his previous album which did bring the album down. also there were one too many battle rhyme tracks.

Strictly Business

- liked the nice funky smooth beats better than most other beats at the time, a type of production which was quite different, ok lyrics

It Takes a Nation of Millions

- it was a tough call, King Tee's Act A Fool, BDP's By All Means Necessary, BDK's Long Live The Kane were all pretty good but this takes it for its production & at the time unique message

Long Live The Kane

- big daddy kane stepped up and gave rakim competition lyrically with new level punchlines and battle rhymes.
