We're putting together a list of top 5 hip hop albums from every year from 1984 all the way up until 2010. we're already doing it in the youtube group but we should use the other networks to contribute to the list too.

the way it will add up is the albums get 5 points if it gets named number 1, 4 points for being named 2, 3 points for number 3, 2 points for number 4 and 1 point for being named number 5 on peoples top 5 lists.

after the lists are drawn the top 2 albums from each year will be put against other albums in a tournament style brackets, we will have votes to see which album will come out as the greatest

just listening to this it sounds classic and so far its a lot better than all the other albums from 2001, atm Stillmatic isn't even making my top 5, positions 2 - 5 are very close for me atm but cunninlynguists are far ahead of the rest at number 1, i'm listening through most of these albums online right now, so if you haven't heard it you should listen to it on youtube

have you not listened to anything from my list???? those are all fucking classics (at least the top 4)!!! i am listening to the tracks that El Mat posted from WRFF and from the sound of it, my top 4 are all superior to this album.

i've been going through these albums all day, i've already gone through Disposable Arts, Revolutionary Vol. 1 and Stillmatic and imo Cunninlynguists is better, i've been listening to Aesop Rocks Labor Days too thats fuckin classic so its closer now, disposable arts had a dope concept but i wasn't feeling masta ace's flow, the production was pretty good but the production on a lot of the other albums happen to be really really good, i'm gonna put up my top 5 soon, 2001 doesn't seem that bad of a year if you only look at the underground albums, i wish 2010 and 2009 had albums this good. Oddly the reason i have CunninLynguists has my number 1 is the same reason Matador said he didn't put it in his list, consistency, i thought this was more consistent that the other albums i've heard so far

what site? and i think Greeny and some others must be on vacation or something coz we only have a couple votes for 2001 so far, or maybe its just coz this wasn't that good a year, 2002 actually seems worse

anyway this is my top 5, these are still all sick albums, this top 5 was actually a very close year esp 2 - 5 could have gone in any order

1. CunninLynguists - Will Rap For Food
2. Aesop Rock - Labor Days
3. Immortal Technique - Revolutionary Vol. 1
4. Cormega - The Realness
5. Masta Ace - Disposable Arts
------------------------------------------------------------------

honorable mentions:

6. Roots Manuva - Run Come Save Me
7. Cannibal OX - The Cold Vein
8. Nas - Stillmatic
9. Necro - Gory Days

Aesop Rock's music is an acquired taste. a lot of people can't get into him. or is it just this album? do you like "None Shall Pass"? i know his style is very different album to album. on "None Shall Pass" he sounds like a completely different artist.
