so the only threads that are allowed in the religion section, are those which are about mainstream points of view

and don't have any one person making a comment that wants to disagree?

looks like the religion section is gonna be very empty then coz i don't think its possible to make such a thread

let's think here. we have an agnostic atheist making a thread about Jesus being exactly opposite of what the common Christian pictures him as. that's a setup for debate. if religious folks want to debate about topics within their own religion in the religious forum, or discuss things and gain knowledge of their religion, that's fine. the whole point of the religion forum is to be a place to go to network with people of common interests. then when they decide to come out of their shell and debate religion with the rest of the world, they can do so in this forum.

Ha! My pops has be saying just that for years.

So in terms of the common Christian is the American Christian right represenitive of Christianity as a whole?.

Nah....but they'd like you to think so.

So much so that after Shock and Awe there was a gentleman by the name of Garner who went over to try and evangelize the ancient Iraqi church....without much success.

Anyway, good thread.

i favour Christian gnostics and Sufist muslims cause they are the only religious cults that have practice spirituality and the understandin of inner self and being close to God

Not the only but bump de bump bump!

Have your view points amended since this post?

I know of a Shiek who had pretty much left his din (before becoming a Shiek) and followed a Hindu guru for years as a close disciple, whom told him after sometime his work was complete and that he (the Shiek) should renew his faith in Islam and go and be a Muslim!?

Anyway you've went from Muslim to Agnostic thats a pretty big swing, how did it happen?

PEACE!

Any view would have sufficed! He couldn't get away quick enough.Which was dissapointing as i felt he was more qualified to answer such a question.

So you were a Murid?
What was your Tariqah?
This was in Romania...how did that go under Ceausescu?

I know this is all OT no probs if you don't want to answer but i do find this stuff of interest..particularly more so now you are agnostic.

PEACE!

i think most of us here have at one point been religious and, while some of us, such as Menace, 8, I_Guy and i have converted to atheism (i prefer rationalism personally because if religion never existed, that would be what would separate those that believe in other illogical things but not God from those that don't believe in anything that isn't empirical), others continue to follow their religions. but believe it or not, at one point, rather recently, i was a Christian. as a matter of fact, i still occasionally attend church and some of my best friends and mentors are members and/or officials there.

I've individually studied Sufism but i didn't actually began practicing it . The main problem was the lack of such communities here at that time .

Well traditionally Islam here in my city had and has a special historical privilege . The city and the county was once under Ottoman rule was part of the Ottoman Empire . Because of such historical ties and because the city was in proximity to Turkey relations were very friendly between Turkey and Romania even under Ceausescu. Plus my family had a "special" privilege in Romania my father was exiled from Egypt by Sadat on the basis that he was part of the " old communist guard " . It was bullshit of course but anyway our family was granted full citizenship here and we moved here and remained and still remain here . My father had ties whit the Nomenklatura from what i know so my family always had the freedom to do as we please of course until the regime was overthrown .
