Microphone Probem,Help please!

 I have aquired a Philips microphone from a friend of mine ,no pc mic ,profesional one ,and when i plug it in it says its pluged in but no sound ,i checked everything in the control panel,the sound volume but nothing,everything is normal there ,can you help please ?

 what connection does it take... With the pro mics, like i explained to Muzzy b4, they really need a preamp (good mixers have these like mines(Mackie VLZ 1202)...

i normally can't hear shit thru my mic unless i turn up the trim knob and add some gain...

my 2 cents.

btw i have a shure mic with XLR hookup into the Mackie and the Mackie into my PC via Terratec Phase 88 sound card with breakout box for inputs and outputs...

 ok.. it's usb.

i know the gain on my mixer worked for my mic... but then again its made for that purpose...

I'm going to research a bit further before i tell you guys to flat out buy a preamp...

I know muzzy you said you could hear yourself, but it was really low right? u prob need a boost or preamp.

AceKat, if you can't hear yourself or record yourself at all, than maybe a driver issue before hardware issue...

My knowledge on this topic is limited compared to other applications... I've only starting using a proper mic recently..

i can only hear myself just through headphones, so after i record it i turn it up in a computer program that i don't have anymore. i think i definitely need a preamp mixer
