Recognize the lies right in front of your eyes
though history despised the race we still rise
Though misery devised our fate we still fly
believe through the tough times we still will thrive

We ride, survived rode out Katrina
Arrived up to vote and so we got a new leader
They tried to do us dirty in Jena
Then try to take homes when the loans tried to bleed us
But never seen us roll up in more two seat-errs
…..just nothing between us
Egregious, always trying to deceive us
But we recognize the lies that smile wide and cheat us
They must have had no ideas
no clues as to how to truly read the genius
A legacy of leaders’ defeaters of the Jim Crow
Scholars and achievers the literary pen smoke
An itinerary that spoke for itself no one else
Learning to read when it’s illegal to take that book up off the shelf
Dealt with like the help so we built the foundation
Taking steps forward with no hesitation

Recognize the lies right in front of your eyes
though history despised the race we still rise
Though misery devised our fate we still fly
believe through the tough times we still will thrive recognize

Check out my melody faithfulness is the fidelity of my soundtrack to that of the heavenlies.....

lol! i think this could actually work better as a rap. i mean, i see that you are trying to do it like some poetry slam type, but i could rap that so easy, i mean you totally set a flow to it and it could go to a beat for sure. maybe you could do like Kweli with "Heaven and Hell" and do it as a slam, then rap it on a track. you should probably expand on it too (as should i with my "White Man" poem. they are requesting that i do too because i have people that want me to perform it and a producer who wants to make it a track). like add two more verses or something. shit could be a classic man, seriously.

my new theme song

Still a work in progress I need feedback

Verse II

Recognize the lies right in front of your eyes
though history despised the race we still rise
Though misery devised our fate we still fly
believe through the tough times we still will thrive recognize

An original man from the sands of Kenya
Dark Continent history loves forgetting to remember
African notes rendered a soft tender can’t compete
History silence-the-pink elephant crimes of sla-ve-ry
Just enable me to stand on the shoulders of giants
With a vision to tackle mountains like David and goliath
Another Hannibal rising his eyes on reparations
Taking it to the U.N. world conference on racism
With no time for placating or skirting the issues
If you not with us then we against you

Recognize the lies right in front of your eyes
though history despised the race we still rise
Though misery devised our fate we still fly
believe through the tough times we still will thrive

Recognize the king in disguise bringing the pride
Back to the people right inside their minds eye
Fighting the rise to turn tides back
Flap back to the future where the past resides at
At last I found that sankofa bird in the word
Who preferred truth over what he deserved
Unnerved by the nerve of the assertive
Who bound truth to their hearts so you easily heard it

Recognize the truth right in front of your heart
Though the stark reality struck we can tear it apart
Though the dark arts dart we have the light in the spark
Believe through the good times we still are smart recognize
