As my head rests upon a pillow
I dream of places I would rather be:

Upon the Amazon
Where lilies float past silently
And the grass is ever-green
And waters are clear as glass.

Atop Everest
Where all that lie above are the heavens
And all that lie below are the clouds
And the majestic blue sky above is all the more near.

Among the beautiful white sand beaches of the tropics
Where the sun's rays melt away the gloom of cities
And bounce off parasols
And gleam in the skyline.

I wish for your presence.
You are a bright light on the darkest of nights;
The goodness in the wickedest of minds.

Is it egocentric of me
To ask you to stand by my side
When after all
It is you who is my true paradise?
Not lilies,
Nor heavens,
Nor rays of sun
Bring out the joy in me that you do;
All I ask
Is that you stand near.

Stand near during the thunder storms
That thrash about like the crack of a whip
Whose luminous bolts pound the earth.

During the rains
Whose drops plummet to the earth like a young bird escaped from it's nest
And beat the floor like a congo drum.

And is it self serving
For me to ask you
To stay a while
When I am not
The only star
Shining in your universe?

Come and walk with me.
We will walk along the boardwalk
And avoid the curious vendors
Who sell the paradise that we seek
Though never obtained it.

Let's talk a while
Of the moments that define us...

Stand by me through the storm
When our feet are cold and our bodies numb
As we trudge through the snow trying to find our way.

It will all end someday.
Someday... someday...

And if the storm worsens we must trudge on
On... on...
For someday
It will all be over:

The storms will subside
And a ray of sun will guide us on our path
And the clouds will open
Revealing the marvelous sky above.

We must continue on
Through the mountains that lie ahead
And the jungles that follow
For the paradise we seek
Lies just beyond them.

The storm will be over
