 gangsta rap is a term created by the media. Eazy E even originally called what he and NWA was doing "reality rap". it's an artistic reflection of reality. the new gangsta shit is just gimmicky bs though to make a buck.

i wouldnt go that far. people are still rapping about what they see and what they know just because some are making money off it doesnt it make it BS.

 who do you see that is making gangsta rap like it used to be? 50 Cent? maybe his early stuff. writing shit like "I'll Still Kill" or whatever that song was called is an obvious marketing scheme. Game's fake ass lives in Glendale and hangs out with nothing but rich ass Armenians. even many of the more underground gangsta rappers tend to be pretty gimmicky.
