if you listen to black milk's verse you can tell it was ghostwritten by Royce. Yet another producer that doesn't write his rhymes.

Well, for example, Dre has a REALLY good rapping voice, better than DOC's. That is why Dre raps. He can't write for shit but he sounds dope on the mic. Same reason most singers simply sing and someone else writes their lyrics for them. It's kind of weak to do that because the performer is then simply a tool to convey the writer's emotions and don't get to convey their own, but it happens quite often.

The MC's voice still plays a HUGE role in their music. Aes Rock, for example, is probably one of the best if not the very best writer in hip hop, but his voice detracts from him while Too $hort is far from extraordinary with the pen, but his voice gives him a mic presence that made him one of the most successful MC's in his time. I think it's a blessing DOC writes Dre's rhymes for him. DOC writes well and Dre raps well. They make a good team.

That's what you don't understand. There is a need. Just imagine, you are producing and people keep telling you "man, you should rap. You have the perfect voice for it." You know you can't write for shit, but your voice coupled with the fact that you are quite knowledgeable about music and can mess around with the flow, delivery, etc., accordingly gives you a reason to rap. Well now you have a dillema. You know it is in your best interest to rap, but you need someone to write for you. Well, that's where a ghostwriter comes into play. It's not rocket science man. There's more to rapping than lyrics and flow. Rapping is almost as hard to perfect as singing but in different ways. You can write some dope shit but only certain people can truly rap it well. I personally should probably stick to ghostwriting and production a bit more because my delivery is less than stellar (it's getting better though). Point is, there's people who can write (DOC, Aes Rock, El-P, DOOM, etc.) And then there's people who can rap (Dre, Snoop, Eazy-E, etc.) And there are quite a few who can really do both, some of which can sing on top of it all (Blu, Pharaohe Monch, Saul Williams, Ice Cube, etc.), but if someone is talented at one and not the other, even if they are already doing production, there's no reason to tell them not to do what they are good at. Now I would understand the question "why does Kanye West rap?" Because he's not good at either. People like Jay-Z, Common and Rhymefest write his shit and his voice is still attrocious. But asking why Black Milk, Dre, etc., rapis ridiculous. They all sound good rapping. And on top of that, Black actually writes good rhymes. He probably had Royce write his shit because he wanted the whole flow of the track to work smoothly.

LOL seriously that wasnt that crucial for you to take your time to write all that stuff but thank you. Still if you produce stick to producing if you cant write now if you cant do neother you just have a good voice then i can understand. But really its not that important so who cares

True. All I'm saying is if people like Dre, Black Milk, etc. didn't rap, there would be something missing in hip hop (and those somethings are The Chronic, 2001 and Tronic ).
