The worst thing about "hip hop" is that brainwashed trendsters and kids, violent angry socio-paths, misogynistic pricks, materialistic obsessed egomaniacs and plain old closed-minded morons associate themselves with it/claim they are part of it, and as LadyChinita pointed out, give every true emcee with a conscious message, or at least a song without a negative one a negative name in the eyes of the media and general population. Also the fact that those artists are the ones not only getting the publicity, but the hype and the airplay, so the artists with genuine talent and good things to say are horribly overshadowed. So many people don't just disrespect legends by failing to pay homage to them, they don't even KNOW who the legends are anymore, and/or to them "Crank dat superman" is a prime example of legendary material. On the contrary, I do think that a lot of artists enjoy being "underground" with a loyal, true cult following, but I still think they should get the credit they deserve, even if every 12 year old kid and 45 year old soccer mom doesn't listen to them obsessively and flip at the deep lyrical content they have to offer. The glamourization of many negative stereotypes which set awful trends, which nobody does anything about, minus complains (my hypocritical self included i guess lol) and the large amounts of money (or what appears to be) these "fake rappers" are granted from their record companies.

But what I LOVE about hip hop, is that no matter what, through all the BS, there will always be true, intelligent people dabbling with it and living it, and as the crappy cycles perpetuate, the dope ones flourish.

Sorry for the long essay. Peace!

One thing that annoys me are people who claim to be rap heads who openly discriminate against another person's taste simply because their favorite emcee list doesn't include Aesop Rock or MF DOOM lol.

the current trend with people attempting to re-make there greatest albums, the PT.II phase. aint nothing wrong with aspiring to make a great album but if there is no hope of you attaining the same or a greater level of excellence step down and call it something else IMO.

Do you have links to any of these racist raps? I've heard the infamous Eminem racist tape but besides that not much.

I've actually mispelled it. I meant white people who are in love with hip-hop and in the same time they are racists.

i don't like some of the stereotypes in hip hop, sometimes its too much, like how you have to be a thug, drugie, cheat on women etc to be cool in hip hop. i don't like those stereotypes

Rap music isn't where people should be looking in terms of women being disrespected. The problem is not the music. The music is simply a reflection of the culture.
