J5 isn't that good?!?!???!!! Man, Chali 2na is one of the dopest lyricists in the game!!! Have you heard "Day At The Races"? He hung in lyrically with Big Daddy Kane and Percee P!!!!!! And those were dope verses from each of them!!! Dude is a raw lyricist and even though the others are as dope, they are still decent. Oh, and don't forget Cut Chemist!!! One of the BEST DJ's in the game, possibly hip hop history! He does pretty much ALL the cuts for DJ SHADOW! For Christ's sake, J5 is damn good! And regardless of your opinion, the article is more about getting into detail with how record companies SCREW you than it is about J5 anyways.

i'm sure they did. most artists of their caliber do. it doesn't matter though. and a lot of them screw artists just the same as labels do. all you need to remember though is don't sign a 360 deal and make sure it's your option. still, i'm sure they will find a way.

Ok, from what I was told (I spoke to the guy who posted this article in person. I don't think he was the writer though), J5 was putting an album together and the label was doing zero promotion so J5 started going to radio stations themselves and doing their own shit, getting themselves on the radio and promoted, but they came back to the label stoked, thinking they had proved themselves worthy of making this album and getting full promotion, but when they got to quality control (the last step before the final touches are put on the album) the label said "we want more Southern jigaboo style tracks." They refused, got dropped, and now the label owns the name "Jurassic 5" and so the group has to ask the label for the rights to that name while touring and obviously, since they were dropped, they will not get that permission.
