We all know them, and there are many greats, but who was the original intelligent emcee(s)? I say...Melle Mel and Cowboy, because "The Message" was the first reality track in the history of hip-hop. All the tracks before that were about party and bullshit (no pun intended)

The Last Poets and Gil Scott-Heron made Proto-Rap in the 60's and 70's they are at the foundation of all that is social and political in hip hop so you all fail your hip hip history class LOL

Quote (Joker13) im pretty sure that wasn't hip hop dog it was just an early stage but it help hip hop form it was rapping if you look in any music book you will see that they made Proto-Rap they are classified as Proto-Rap and forefathers of hip hop because they didn't made traditional spoken word poetry they did it on heavy beats pretty much like now days
