Did the punk scene completely die when bands like Blink 182 and Good Charlotte came around? No. They might have kind of corrupted the image of what punk is, and what it's original purpose was, but good punk was still around. You just had to look. You still have to look.
And like many bubble gum rappers, even the poppiest of MTV punk had elements of punk in them, just not enough to call themselves punk. Blink 182 still had the fast drums, the "fuck you, I'll say what I want even if it offends you" attitude, the 3 chorded manifestos... Sure, the music sounded alot more produced and watered down, but the formula was still the same. SO, it's the same with hiphop. The formula new cats are using is the same: you make a beat and rap over it. That right there is an element of hiphop, IMO: emceeing. It's just the subject matter and the simplicity that makes it all bullshit.
I'm not saying Gucci Mane is hiphop. I'm saying that he has elements which are common in hiphop, but that doesn't make him a hiphop artist. It makes him a (shitty) artist that uses things that started as original hiphop shit, that got tweaked around with the whole MTV idea of what hiphop is.
You have the bubble gum bullshit corrupting the image, which sucks, but hey, good hiphop is still out there somewhere. You just gotta look.

is it just me, or does the raekwon part sound good then turns to shit with the singing.
