The only albums that i think can compare to illmatic are Moment of Truth, Me Against The World, and The 18th Letter

really?? i thought MATW and 18th Letter were both mediocre at best. i can't say i've heard Moment of Truth in its entirety but from what i have heard i doubt it competes with Illmatic tbh. to each his own i guess though. i'm not the 2pac fan i used to be and i'm not a fan of the production on Rakim's solo projects

Crap! I'm voting for Midnight Marauders. Not to bug people or whatever, I really like it more. Didn't like Illmatic all of that much.

yeah I ain't a fan of the production, I'm more used to hearing rakim on the jazzy beats that he had with eric b. rather then the dj premier chopped and sliced type style.

Eric B. is a fraud. i am a fan of the Rakim and DJ Premier collabos personally, but i don't think Premo gave Rakim some of his best production, nor did Rakim come with his best lyrics over Premo's beats. don't get me wrong, 18th Letter was dope, but i wouldn't even call it a classic let alone on par with either of the two albums that this thread is about.

I thought MATW was great. It was definately Pac's best album.
But Im so relieved to know that Im not the only one who didnt like The 18th Letter. The beats were so boring. The Master and The Seventh Seal were so much better.

premo gave rakim some crappy beats, but rakim brought good lyrics on the songs New York and Been A Long Time, Premo gave rakim a decent beat on When I Be On The Mic but then Rakim didn't bring his best rhymes.
The beats from the eric b days brought out more energy from rakim i think because there were more aggressive beats so rakim had to match the tempo
