This song is actually dope. But I been followingt he story of this whole situation, so I understand it now.

Apparently Lupe's team reached out to Pete rock months ago for clearance to rap over TROY. This was around the time Heavy D died, so Pete was grieving for that lost, but he gave Lupe's team the GO to use TROY. But Lupe's team never followed up after that. They didn't tell Pete what all Lupe was going to do with the track and he never even worked on the remix. So naturally, when the song came out, Pete was pissed because he didn't even have a say-so to what Lupe did with his track.

I see. He should've had a say in the matter. They could've fucked it up bad.

I think Lupe's song is pretty good, but can't touch the original imo. I don't mind that he used to same sample, but he could at least have given a shout out or worked with Pete Rock on it to show tribute
