prostitution is actually legal in some US states with HEAVY regulation and it is working quite well from what i hear. Louisiana has a red light district and Las Vegas is a prostitution hub in Nevada along with being the casino capital of the US. both have lower rates of child prostitution and very little violent crime related to prostitution. i am having a hard time looking for stats though so Menace, maybe you could do the honors. i did find one site that debunks prostitution myths through stats though. here it is: http://www.bayswan.org/stats.html this one is a bit more fact based and doesn't have a "motive": http://powerhouse-ministry.org/annielobert_prostitution.aspx

btw, idk about NZ, but i just read about Australia (who also legalized it). apparently legal prostitution there failed because they don't do anything to enforce the laws and such and the underground prostitution entrepreneurs (aka pimps) just got smarter and undermined the legal brothels.

btw, we should make a continuation of prop 8. if we REALLY want to preserve marriage we needto make divorce illegal! or what we can do is follow the law: the supreme court directly stated that the opportunities given to heterosexuals need to be extended to homosexuals in full and prop 8 made gay marriage illegal, so by extension, the only logical conclusion is that we make marriage itself illegal as well
