Statistical Life Worth Less Today

The "value of a statistical life" is $6.9 million in today's dollars, the Environmental Protection Agency reckoned in May — a drop of nearly $1 million from just five years ago.

Though it may seem like a harmless bureaucratic recalculation, the devaluation has real consequences.

When drawing up regulations, government agencies put a value on human life and then weigh the costs versus the lifesaving benefits of a proposed rule. The less a life is worth to the government, the less the need for a regulation, such as tighter restrictions on pollution.

Why do we have to measure everything in money? Isn't money-obsession what got us into polluting our own planet and corrupting our communities?

That's ridiculous! Is our world seriously so sick that we put a price tag on humanity? It's bad enough we have to calculate everything on who won like wars, debates, elections, economies, etc., but this is too far. What fucking government agency is responsible for this? I swear I'm writing a letter.

the life system we all currently live in is all just a money game. i used to dream of starting my own system that didn't revolve around money but that would probably just end up being just as corrupt and bad anyway. but i still think we need to take back life and not live in this game anymore somehow. Not live where its my countries economy versus your countries economy, fuck economies why can't we be one.

We need to bring back Transcendentalism.

We all know that each of our end is near; the question is do we accept the end of our living existence, or do we accept our existence as dead men...
