i just realized this. America wasn't formed as a democratic country, but politicians like to throw that term in your face like we live in one. we live in a republic. these are the definitions of each. tell me, which would you say we live in: democracy - government by the people; a form of government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised directly by them or by their elected agents under a free electoral system.
republic - a state in which the supreme power rests in the body of citizens entitled to vote and is exercised by representatives chosen directly or indirectly by them.
notice that they are very similar, but check out the subtle difference. democracies are governed by the people and do not necessarily rely on politicians. therefore, democracies, in essence, rely strongly on the people, not the people's representatives. republics, on the other hand, have power vested in their elected representatives intrinsically. makes you think.
