BUT all things considered, it would be much more sensible to buy a pedal like this that would produce the same effect

 yeah, they have a bunch of 8bit remakes on YouTube. the funniest are when they re-do metal in 8bit because those fast guitar riffs process in a really funny way when they are converted lol. check this out:
