Gutter Water (Oh No & The Alchemist) Gangrene: advance release beginning Nov 15 A couple years back The Alchemist and Stones Throw's Oh No announced they would be working on their own Jaylib-style hip-hop collab under the name Gangrene. Defying the list of announced hip-hop collabs that never see the light of day, Gangrene has just emerged. The album is called Gutter Water and it is being released on the Decon label. Starting from the album title, there's no mistaking the style of Gutter Water: drums smothered that go-jump-off-a-bridge, rusty-nail-in-the-eye, nasty toilet bowl rawness, the kind of grimy music both of these producers have spent a decade perfecting. The Alchemist rose in the late 1990s as an associate of Dilated Peoples and Mobb Deep and proved himself as one of hip-hop's most sought-after producers - as the LA Times wrote, “working with anyone who wants to create murky sonics that hint of just having crawled out of the La Brea Tar Pits.”

Wise Intelligent's NEW BOOK: 3/5 an MC: The Manufacturing of a DUMBED DOWN RAPPER! COMING SOON! "Hip Hop, like the Negro spiritual, and like the blues represented the recorded confrontation of an oppressed African American community with a system apparently committed to its collective disenfranchisement, if not extermination. Hip Hop should be interpreted exactly as blues chronicler Larry Neal wrote concerning the blues in 1971 'They [the blues]' writes Neal "are about survival on the meanest, most gut level of human existence. They are therefore, lyrical responses to the facts of life.”
