Monte Smith: Rebel Poetry (The Chant)

Maybe it’s me, but I don’t wanna be non-threatening like the poets you see on TV

I want my poetry to scream truth and rights
I want my poetry re-read at night by younger generations ready to pick up the fight
I want my poetry to bite, rip and hit
I want my poetry to give you the fits, the sweats, the shits

It’s got to radiate with the same energy as the air in an uprising, no compromising

I want my poetry armed and ready to attack
I want my poetry to scare the rich into giving it back
I want my poetry to leave you choking and gasping for air
I want my poetry to remember brothers like John Sinclair

I don’t care what you think of me, listen to the words… its rebel poetry

I want my poetry to burn bridges and draw lines in the sand
I want my poetry books and recordings outlawed for being contraband
I want my poetry well trained and ready for reaction
I want my poetry to leave blood in your eye in memory of George L Jackson

Monte Smith: So Beaten We’re Delusional (taken from 'Don't Shoot The Hostages')

Yo Dutch…

"What’s poppin’ little brother?”

Check out this burner I just copped.

"Man put that shit up… what tha fuck are you doin’?”

What’cha mean?

"What’cha holdin’ for?”

To get this money.

"You look like you're smokin’ more than ya sellin’. How old are you?”

Twelve!

"Listen young blood, it’s time for every individual within lower class society to
determine for themselves if their actions are appropriate for the survival of their
fellow inhabitants, you feel me?”

No!

"Well try to understand this, we can’t afford to let the greedy wreak havoc on us
any longer, and that goes for you too.”

Man I ain’t tryin’ to hear this shit!

"WHAT?…”

(SMACK)

Damn Dutch… why’d you hit me?

"It’s time to decide -- friend or foe.”

What?

"If you’re exploiting people’s weaknesses for profit, then start considering your-
self a target. If selling narcotics and landing in and out of jail is normal to you,
then it’s time you learn that’s what the programmers want you to do. Besides,
how are you going to liberate the oppressed rotting in a state sponsored stable?”

Liberate the oppressed, what tha fuck are you talkin’ about?

"If you’re going to fight the programmers you have to get clean mentally and
physically. Only then, can you aid in the ‘changing of the guard’.”

Wait a minute, slow down...

"And do it quickly, the south is rapidly being leveled for thousands of new high-
rise slave factories. It’s the private business sectors’ new process of profiting off
the old trade of import/export distribution. And to make things worse, as of 9/11
even though privately owned, all death camps are designed and endorsed by the
Central Intelligence Agency.”

Why?

"Why? To better insure maximum productivity by way of mind control. For
example, every time a new shipment of inmates arrives they're immediately
led into the yard, lined up, and stripped of all clothing. The head pig on command
then randomly orders one of the inmates to step out of line, when the order
has been obeyed, he or she is immediately executed.”

You serious?

"This 'exercise' as they like to label it, is demonstrated to break those left
standing.”

Man, I don’t know about this shit.

"All around you death awaits, from the laser lined walls to the bulletproof
terror boxes, four in all. Each one housing two conservative right wingers
aiming high powered head splitters. Due to simple possession my uncle’s
in for life. He calls’em freedom givers. In all of his letters, the words, if
that’s what you wanna call’em, paint more than they talk. Each sheet of
paper is a gallery of self mutilation and rage. Disturbing visuals, enriched
from years of mentally suffering behind locked doors that only open for
showers, food and war.”

Yo Dutch, you’re fuckin’ crazy man!

"Where ya goin’? Come back, the resistance needs you,

The resistance needs you.

The resistance needs you.

The resistance needs you.

The resistance needs you…

Kill The Art By Monte Smith

I believe in creating poetry and music from the heart, fuck the charts but pop culture ain’t that smart, it just wants to...KILL THE ART!

That’s why promoters are afraid to put me on, cause if they do they may lose their
sponsors. I said promoters are afraid to put me on the bill because they know I don’t
give a fuck how the mainstream feels and for that, they’ve labeled me a monster.

I’ll tell radio, press and any crowd to their face, I’m here to expand your mind socially
not reflect BET, MTV and popular radio with the non-creative, anti-intellectual,
anti-human, thought process they embrace.

I’m tired of corporate radio bred sheep catching name and doing’ tours, you know,
supportin’ Babylon, killin’ the message and fucking the poor, but that’s what the
consumer is told to want – right?

And even though sheep may be sheep, what about the fact the album sucked
and the show wasn’t tight, or what about the fact that most acts today, are no
talent hacks who pay to play?

I believe in creating poetry and music from the heart, fuck the charts but pop culture
ain’t that smart, it just wants to...KILL THE ART!

The days of "being on point” are over, the non-haters security commission are armed
with payola, designer labels and Cadillacs with suicide doors, they're known to attack
at night blasting cooperate slaughter at the poor.

The systematic effects of FM are creating mental defects within the youth so they
can’t hate, I mean think for themselves when they download or walk into a music
store.

The corporations have created a market of bought clowns who trade art for checks,
now, the only way to get on, is to be marketable, Uncle Tom’ish and do a lil’ jig, only
THEN, will the majors let you in, that’s why people freak if you critique. It’s so bad,
you can’t even speak of the days when music was about talent and passion in public.

Seriously, that type of talk will leave you with your spirit bashed in and quite possibly,
your head and stomach.

I believe in creating poetry and music from the heart, fuck the charts but pop culture
ain’t that smart, it just wants to...KILL THE ART!

Stop killing the art then justifying it by claiming babies and home: "I got seeds to
feed son!" Well then get a job. Don’t kill the music, now everybody thinks they can
do it, turn on the radio… I’ll prove it!
