So I saw some cool vynal at a local record store and I dont have a record player.....
Would it be a better idea to save up and get a turntable? Because sometimes I just want to fuck around with a track and it would give me something to do, and if I dont wanna scratch I can just listen to it.
And explain the difference between 8's and 12's and all that shit.
I dont get it.
I need someone to explain it.
Can they all play on the same player?

BTW if anyone is wondering what vynal I saw that I wanted it was "25 years of Def Jam" or something like that and it had some shit worth hearing on that.

ANd if anyone is like "Why does he want a record player?"
Well my mom has literally SHELVES full of records that are just going to waste.... I might as well put them to use while I can. Plus I love the look and vibe off of vinyal. Its more real to me. Dont know why I just think it is more...... gritty. Real. Un-cut.

do you mean 12" and 7" records? as long as the rpm is 33 1/3 or 45 on the record it can be played on a standerd record player

but you know how it is downloading an album is kinda crap, cd is cool cos you own it but vinyl is next level haha

Is turntabling something worth learning?
Is it something tremendously hard to teach yourself?

dont buy used tables at the pawn shop...

u can find brand new ones online for REALLLLLLLY cheap if u just do ur research...

i suggest sticking with something thats guna last u...cuz it would make no sense to buy something used and it breaks down on u in a year...

buy something that will last u...and stick with direct drive also...

cuz u never kno u might decide u like scratching or something
cuz ur obviously into hip hop so ur guna try atleast a couple of times i bet...

so go with something that u can mess around with and scratch a lil bit wit
...
trust me u wont be disapointed u got something like this..

i kno u can copp some plain and simple direct drives from stanton under 150...
or u can roll with a simple direct from numark also...

stay away from gemini and Ion...there crap in M/O they dont even come with all the speeds for records...

ALSO look for a table with three speeds...33.1/2,45,an 78...

the difference on some records are speeds....

the smaller are faster speeds the bigger ones are lower speeds...
common sense really..

good luck tho...

but i really recomendd u buying a new one for cheap...something like a basic numark direct drive or stanton

I had a dream about you last night, UniteC. (NO HOMO)
Actually, it was all about RHHF.
I was in this office type area, and it was closing time. I walk up to someone and im like "Where am I?" and they were like "Oh this is RHHF records" and then UniteC walks up and everything he says pops up in text form in a bubble right above his head.
He gave me his password and username and thats how I knew it was unitec, then I went to school at nighttime????? I remeber going to school and it being dark...
Weird.

everything in this world is worth learning...

"life without knowledge is death in disquise"

the thing about DJing i think ...its just SO damn funn! if u love music...

so try it out.!!!..and remember not to ask around too much for ppl to "TEACH"
you an stuff like that....

the cool thing about hip hop...IS if u have the BASIC knowledge of the elements..and all...

u can teach youself...u dont really need anyone to teach u...
read up on techniques n stuff or w/e or just watch a fu** load of youtube videos or something hahaha!!!

in the end...

you...are your own teacher...
and you are your own critic...

so experiment wit it man...
just dont half ass it like most ppl...

if u guna get into an element give it ur all and let ppl kno u aint playin games fill me?

(sorry for these long speechs lol!)

another thing...

dont worry about money man....seriously...

and i REALLLY WOULDNT suggest buying technics LOL those joints are REALLY expensive...and if u ask me it isnt the way for a begginer to start...
it would be like a begginer producer buying a MPC5000 or something crazey whack like that...
just dont over kill it...it would be a waste of money in M/O ....
dont spend tooooooo much if ur just experimenting...

and later on if u decide u wana move up to the 1200's then selll ur old equipment to some one and use the money to copp the 1200's

just focus on a simple mixer (something for scratch) and two direct drives....and ur good happy

have fun and dont listen to to many ppls opionions stick to ur head and what YOU want...but at the same time use ppls advice to ur advantage....
take pro;s n con;s from everything

someone should just post a DJing/Turntable sticky, because I dont know if some of these are brands or types of equipment or what.
Whats a direct drive exactly?

sorry Ive just never been around someone who has done turntables.
My parents were in a classic rock band and so Ive been around rock my whole life. I know alot about mixers, recording equipment, and differnt types of guitars/drums/and genereal rock'n;roll shit. I just dont know much about samplers, turntables, etc.

welll its like this kid...

DIRECT DRIVES....

are POWERED by a magnetic ELECTRIC motor...

and BELT DRIVES are powered by a BELT...

direct drives are just better cuz they deliver ore power and more torque...which meens u gett better speed when scratching....

the belt drives are just really slow and lame cuz they take time to speed up cuz of the belt...
and therefor when tryin to scratch or mix things stuff is just slower and less accurate..
theres alot of lagg...

its like comparing DSL/CABLE internet to regular DIAL UP hahah!!
belt drives are usally built cheaper too...which is kinda bad considering begginers will tend to beat up the tables...because lack of skill and knowledge of maintaining tables...n such

in the end like i said the choice is urs...belt drives arnt ALLL BAD ...
i meen thats what catz were using back in the day when they were spinnin in the 80s LOL
which is hella sick in m/o..

but its the year TWENTY O NINE LMAO
step up ur game and go modern lol technology nowa days is unbeleivable...
use it to ur advantage..

as for SAMPLERS...

you got ur digital and ur analog sampling techniques...

you can either use software on ur computer which is a good way to start out as a begginer...

then u got MPCS and stand alone samplers n stuff...

MPCS...are cool becuase u got those soft ass pads n shizz and u can get a more naturall fill to ur music because ur playing shiz out like a drumm...

u can gettt MPDs for ur computer compatable with software n stuff...so its almost like having n MPC...
but the process is much longer then it is on a MPC

the MPCs also deliver different sound...depending on which sample rate ur pushin...

personally i like the MPC2000xl cuz to my knowledge i kno it pushs 16bit samples which is an lower rate then modern stuff today which is pushin 32rate...

the lower the rate the lower qaulity...the higher the better....
simple..

but i like the older sound cuz u get the nasty crunchy rugged hollow sound that the 16bit samplers...
deliver..
a good example is DJ premiers older stuff like gangstarr or jeru the damajas old stuff...

such a beautifull sound that u dont hear alot of nowa days..

because of the 32 bit samplers and ppls sampling style of course...

butttt

all the stuff ive learned over time about sampling, turntables, recording, graffiti, bboying, and just everything hip hop related....

ive taught my self from ground up...

everything ive learned just has been from experimenting and observing...
and putting things into effect..

its a long and funn journey ...u just need to ask yourself... is
hip hop a hobbie or a lifestyle?

thats when u start to gain your knowledge because if its ur lifestyle then your more observent then other catz when its just a hobbie...

man...u got me started now son LOL u guna get me talkin for days ma niggg lol!
