Why is that. I've heard of people doing that and always wondered.

High weight with less repetitions will increase your strength.

My point was that the animals we eat gain muscle without eating meat. So why do humans have to eat meat to gain muscle.

You can but vegetarian food is generally low on protein and is easy to get from food like eggs, chicken & meat in general. A lot of milk products are high on protein though so you could use a lot of those & buy some protein to make up for the low protein food you're eating. There's all sorts of protein, you can buy some protein bars, protein that's made from milk and I personally use Whey protein after workouts because it's only really being processed by your body for a very short time, around 30 minutes I heard which makes it really effective right after you've finished working out.

The reason, I_Guy, that doing lower rep, higher weight workouts is necessary for weight gain is because how our muscles work is when you exercise your muscles rip and in those rips muscles slowly grows back, filling in the ripped area and causing muscle growth. When we lift low weight for a lot of reps, smaller rips occur, but more of them also occur. This causes our muscles to firm up but not grow at a very fast rate and this is why you see people who look really thin but fit. These people tend to have a lot of stamina, especially if they do a lot of cardio. The people who rep heavy weight for a few reps create larger rips (but less of them) that fill in with bigger muscles and thus they bulk up. It's a pretty simple concept but it works and is really the only way.

I guess I've never realized the more weight the bigger the rips. I figured either method equalized.
