lol come on man haha! i don't talk shit about Christianity, i just point out the illogical things within the beliefs of those that follow it. and fyi, Christmas is a holiday that was taken originally from a Pagan celebration of the winter solstice. i celebrate the solstice (which is simply the time of year when the sun is at it's lowest in the sky during the day, resting in the northern crux, and begins rising) because i find it to be a positive thing. i love the idea of a holiday to share gifts. there's nothing wrong with that. i simply do not celebrate God on this particular holiday.

nah man im just fuckin wit u cuz ima prick. I personally think religion is just something ppl use because their insecure and feel like they need to be part of a group to feel like they fit in. It doesn't really matter whether it is logical or illogical. and yes i do know christmas is taken from a pagan celebration. From what i read though it was just an excuse to party and get wasted, but I could be wrong.

i simply said that i celebrate the winter solstice rather than christmas and then i stated that all i want is to spend time with my girlfriend. the issue blew up unnecessarily after that.

3) this one is so fucked up and absurd that it is ridiculous. where do i start?:

lol

Quote (eboyd)
then if anyone was "stealing" it was the roman catholic church and emperor constantine who decided to call arianism (the practice of believing in Jesus as a messiah but not the divine son of god) heretical and, at the council of nicaea, decided to consolidate the winter solstice celebration with christmas.

the council of nicaea included the orthodox churches as well who dont celebrate Christmas on dec 25....btw what about dec 25th just being a coincidence being on the winter solstice (9 months after Annunciation which is on march 25)??

Quote (eboyd)
if you were a real christian you would give jesus gifts for his birthday, even if it is just love, but giving gifts to other people is a no-no.

Actually, God prefers it if we love one another as He had loved us, so giving gifts to other people is a yes-yes. "Whatever you do to the least of them, you do to Me."

Christianity is a western approach to Judaic philosophy

what do u mean western? it started in the east

Islam is an Arabic approach to Judaic philosophy .

isnt it Judaic AND Christian philosophy?

well aware of that. that doesn't change the fact that Christmas being celebrated on Dec. 25th was a result of the council of nicaea.

i never ruled that out, i simply mentioned, historically, where the decision came from and why we celebrate the winter solstice on the same day as christians celebrate the birth of christ.

i know. i was giving a logical response to an illogical statement based on the idiotic logic presented in that statement.

Rome was considered western as it's empire's basis was in Western Europe. remember, there was, to the best o our knowledge, nothing west of Europe at that point in time.

Quote (sodr2)

in a sense, but then again, not really, as Judaism came LONG before Christianity.

It's Judaic philosophy seen and adopted by Western Europeans that being Romans , Saxons etc. It's no coincidence why so many western pagan traditions linger in Christianity .

More Judaic rather then Christian considering the Judaic influence in the Arabian Peninsula

On Christmas I will pretend it isn't.

We all know that each of our end is near; the question is do we accept the end of our living existence, or do we accept our existence as dead men...

you don't have to be religious to celebrate christmas, then again its summer here during christmas so i guess everyone is more cheerful down here wether they're religious or not

I love how everyone just left the title of this thread as it is.
