no to make punchlines etc, or play on words that might have two different meanings things like that.

BobO you have a lot to learn so click here and here to find out more about word play. study them. learn how to properly use them. if you wish to write some proper raps or even possibly poetry you will more than likely need these techniques.

every rapper needs to know grammar or how to built syllabic rhymes how to merge them and all the package your wrong at saying that because successful rappers at least those that RAP don't bullshit on pop music they master these techniques in fact that's why Rakim was considered so revolutionary he brought rhyming at another level from simple one bar lines to multi syllabic rhymes whit crazy metaphors and everything he brought writing rhymes to another level you must understand the basics of writing so you can elevate and create your own style

Yea word play is when u play with the meaning of words and turn them into a metaphor
heres a good example in my verse

Im untouchable, you couldnt touch me even if we was stuck by glue

You see how I played with the "touch" and I how I made it seem like you cant touch me?
thats an example of word play

but yea u need alot of that, and u need to make more sense when u rhyme
and try not to sound gay or like a sissy
and u need to kno its good to be influenced by your favorite rapper, but dont bite lines from them LMAO
seriously thats not a good look

but just practice writing everday and you'll see the results in time

1. many famous emcees learn these techniques from other famous emcees, not something written, but it's all the same.
2. Supernatural studies the dictionary every day. to tell me artists don't study shit like this is simply ignorant submission.
3. any studying will make you better as an emcee. the more concepts you understand the more you have to write about and the more technique you have for writing.

nah i'm sure Eminem would have studied words when he was younger coz on Infinite his punchlines were sick. What i do is when i see a word that could possibly be used as word play i always take note of it and later come up with a sick line. Have you heard Eminem and Eye Kyu's song 313, the song is made up almost entirely of punclines.
