nice i like it, people in the south might get offended though lol but its cool
i think this is a pretty good concept for a song though, keep working on it and see if you can turn it into a full song
Yah, thanks. I started writing a diss about various south MCs, and I noticed I referred to hip hop as 'you', so I went that road instead.

i wouldn't say it "died" in the south, nor would i even say that it's dead, just underground. but pretty dope shit. i like the concept.
The sunlight is enlightenment/consciousness (I'm pretty sure Jeru meant that too, so "it sets in the west was a bad comeback") and it doesn't come from the sky (the 'man' lol) so you had to spread it yourself, I was trying to say that it went underground, I guess I assumed this implied it, I see now it didn't work. I made this at 5 in the morning or so, I'll see if I can't get sense into it:
You started out as fun,
a dance and maybe a pun.
Breaking and rapping for fun.
You got heart, you got soul, and you're witty.
You are the colour of this whole city.
It's now an art, a reference to graffiti.
You represent yours and they represent you,
A racial thing, but can be seen as just hip hop heads.
People scratch your back for a sou.
Turntablism catches on
Don't get me wrong, they aren't slaved
they got names, check your back, it's engraved.
Just saying the first DJ's went down in history
It goes Herc and Flash, Theodore and Caz,
Remember these names, they are the grandmastas.
...
Hard times, no - not this time,
hard times will come, but you're in your prime.
Reference to Run DMC means new school started, it's the prime of hip hop, the golden age.
You are positive and represent peace.
Now the sun rises, it is in the east.
First it's all about being jolly and positive, then it's about truth.
You can see mistreatment and stand up,
you're strong, but this is from the top.
Rebelling, thought of PE, the music is being commercialized.
People are deluded, don't know who to fight,
Fans of shit hip hop and real hip hop.
it's lasted 15 years, they thought you died.
skipped to 2004 or whatever, when Nas dropped that song.
There's no light in the sky, it comes from the mouth,
Enlightenment doesn't come from the man/business/record labels, the MCs have to spread it, (thought this implied they were underground, it does not, but should.)
the sun didn't set in the west, it died in the south.
A reference to whoever came with that reply to Jeru's album title. I turned it against southern hip hop. They have killed the very last bit of consciousness in mainstream hip hop. If you take offence, fuck it, be that way.
