On April 16, 1954 Clive Campbell AKA DJ Kool Herc was born. He is widely known as the man who "invented" hip hop. His party on August 11, 1973 was considered a pivotal event in the early development of hip hop. Homage is paid to Herc as the founder by nearly every hip hopper.

Happy Birthday Kool Herc..
the merry go round became the blueprint for hip hop... the first to react to the innovations were herc's party goers, the breakdancers we used those breaks especially the mexican for break dancing wow this was the hit..this was so popular in all the block parties and any party after that in the parks, centers etc..i think my mexican was removed from youtube, i found another one.

Babe Ruth - The Mexican

and of course another famous break beat back then..
2:22 the famous breakers beat comes in
Apache - Incredible Bongo Band

Hmmmm.... That begs the question then: was Herc's party that marked the beginning of hip hop his bday party? I hope I didn't get the date wrong by confusing April with August though. Lol!

lol - u know what?!?!? I think you did biggrin

On August 11, 1973, DJ Kool Herc was a Disc Jockey and Emcee at a party in the recreation room of 1520 Sedgewick Avenue in the Bronx adjacent to the Cross-Bronx Expressway. It was not the actual "Birthplace of Hip Hop" -- the genre developed slowly in several places in the 1970s -- it was verified to be the place where one of the pivotal and formative events occurred. bangin

"Hip-hop is the voice of this generation. Even if you didn't grow up in the Bronx in the '70s, hip-hop is there for you. It has become a powerful force. Hip-hop binds all of these people, all of these nationalities, all over the world together."
DJ Kool Herc
