meant to be on his 2002 album The Golden Chyld. I think what happened was Dr. Dre also did a version of this song, the record label wanted the Dr. Dre version as a single (perhaps since Dr. Dre was the in thing at that time) but Ras Kass wanted the Premo version to be the single (I don't blame him the premo one is awesome). So the album never got released. But here it is, imo one of premo's best beats.

here is the Dr. Dre version which is also really good. Most of the lyrics plus the chorus are different but the last verse in this is the same as the premo one. Its a shame coz if they did release this version as a single Ras Kass career would have blown up like crazy.

I've NEVER heard ANYONE say Premo sounds pop-ish. Far from it. He pretty much created the sound that strayed from pop production in hip hop. Btw, my fav Prem beat is "Above The Clouds." "NY State Of Mind" is probably a close second though. I'd also have to put "Come Clean" up there along with "Mass Appeal" and "You Know My Steez." Matter of fact, those are probably higher than "NY State Of Mind." This is a DOPE Premo beat, probably up there with the better of his more recent work like "Society Is Brainwashed" and "How We Rock," but not quite up there with the classics.

SOME of premos beats are a lil monotonous........mainly his later ones

for eg. *gulp* (forgive me)....the song by az "The format"....3 second looped beat straight for 3 minutes....also that album he did with christina agulera
