The Common Ground Foundation is dedicated to the empowerment and development of urban youth in the United States. The Common Ground Foundation was created by Hip Hop artist, actor and children’s author Lonnie Rashid Lynn, known as “Common”. Common’s social-conscience message serves as inspiration for equality, opportunity and hope among youth in undeserved communities. The Foundation is committed to empowering youth in urban neighborhoods and providing life skills needed to achieve their dreams. Common time and time again done his part to help the youth through writing and community service. In 2005 for instance, he wrote and released three books for elementary age children that received warm praise from parents and teachers alike. Now, with a new online venture, Common is hoping to inspire teens through the art of storytelling with The Corner book club. Launching yesterday on commongroundfoundation.com The Corner book club is described as an interactive medium to engage high school kids in reading, specifically with their book-of-the-month selections. With education being a foundation in his own household, Common explained the decision behind starting The Corner book club. “My mom was a teacher, and growing up she always stressed the importance of education. So when I look back it's not a surprise for me to use words as a tool to make change, and to inspire children for the future,” he said in a press statement. Along with material to enlighten the minds of teenagers, The Corner will also provide interviews of book authors, including March’s book-of-the-month author Emmanuel Jal, who wrote War Child. A noted reader himself, Common is adamant about the fact that reading and education go hand in hand. “You’ll never stop growing; you shouldn’t. And it’s alright to be a teen growing, but not in height. I’m talking about wisdom, experiences, and self-knowledge.”

Ehh, the educational system as a whole is flawed. Take maths for an example, 97% of the shit you learn after high school is impractical. Let's face it, you're never going to make the x's & y's hop around in and out of things, changing the - to a plus because a ( says so and then do some other shit to create math like that, make it all more complex. You ask your teacher and he doesn't even have an answer. Sure, it works but who the fuck wants to take 15-17 = 483274 & make it 15-17x =38238x? We also learn A LOT of other stuff that nobody really cares about while we're not require to learn something like.. First aid for an example, it's optional. You arrive somewhere where an accident just happened and someone's running around asking "Anyone know first aid?": "Well.. Naw I don't know first aid but I can do Algebra and tell you which species-type-flock some hairy elephant is. Those may not be the best examples but there's a lot of impractical stuff taught in schools and it should all be removed & replaced by something you will use in the future. Ie. learn how to handle money & such but instead we learn some serious bullshit.

that's a very complicated issue it depends on the actual social and political system that the individual grows in for some black kids ain't appealing to go to school and learn 24 hours a day about some white dudes and what wonders of people they were and there are many things that makes people reject school people are not inherently stupid so it depends on the school system and on his environment

we should be inspiring people to learn, then they will understand. its backwards, atm we just present the info but before that we have to spark an interest if it wasnt there before, but yeah education system is fucked its a one size fits all thing Quote (TheWatcher) Ehh, the educational system as a whole is flawed thats just it, the curiculem is flawed, i never learnt how to do taxes or start a company but at least i know the rain cycle right?
