Quote (eboyd) the reason for this is that these emcees understand the idea of making yourself the solo instrument on the track. Quote (eboyd) study Miles Davis on the trumpet. that's all i have to say about that. uhh are u arguin that flow is more important or lyrics?

Quote (eboyd) that's different from what you told everyone else not really but you have to put it into little words because some people here don't understand too well i hate this connotation that every head has to be into lyrics. maybe its what hip hop is notorious for but everyone loves something different about it

Quote (ill) its not about who its about sound but a lot of the time, hip hop is more than just sound, its an art form to a lot of people. but i do understand, coz beats and flow are the most important parts. but if the beats and flow are combined with dope as lyrics with substance than that is perfection. Quote (eboyd) alright, i'ma rap this over the greatest beat of all time with the greatest flow and see how much you like it: what beat is this?

Quote (J-Breakz) rlly, cuz it seems like ur talkn about flow yeah, a bit, but i am also talking about lyrics. alright, i'll break it down. in a standard hip hop song, the first thing to hit me is the beat, then the flow/delivery, then the lyrics come last because you actually have to engage your brain to understand well written lyrics. however, it really depends on what i am in the mood for atm, what i am looking for from that artist, etc. for example, if i am trying to get amped, the first thing i listen for is the beat. if the beat knocks, the song usually knocks unless ruined by crappy ass lyrics and/or flow/delivery when i am in this state. then there's times i'm trying to chill in which i am probably looking for flow. and then of course when i am in my usual listening mode which i'd call attentive, i am listening for lyrics. also, if i listen to someone like Phat Kat, usually he's on a Dilla beat but i think he's fucking wack so i'm listening to lyrics. then there's Percee P. when i listen to him, because the beats he gets on are often bland/decent but hardly ever amazing, i am naturally listening for lyrics. and then Nas. when he gets on the mic his flow is immaculate, but he very often doesn't make sense. in this case, i listen mainly to the flow.
