thats strictly opinion-based tho
U cant speak for the Hip hop world and saying that it wasnt
to you it wasnt
To me it was
To others it was lyrical
to others it wasnt

no, it is not opinion based. put that in front of any head and ask if that was "well-written," or even better, put it in front of a linguistic scholar who likes hip hop and ask, "in terms of hip hop lyrics, was that well written?" and he will tell you "no" or "it was OK, but to call it well written would be a stretch."

the point is that there is a such thing as writing that is, by English writing standards, poorly written. you could argue, for example, that Soulja Boy is a good writer, but that would be, based on the standards that exist, factually incorrect.

at the end of the day tho Erik does it really matter? im still gonna like the song and you still gonna hate it
But knowing you, you wont let it end with me still liking it, you'll still continue to insist it was garbage until hell freezes over sp lets just let it be and continue with this freegin thread.....

dude, for the fiftieth time, i DON'T HATE THE SONG! THE SONG IS NOT BAD! there are PLENTY of good songs that even have BAD lyrics, but most of them are in other genres because we pay so much attention to lyrics in hip hop and there is nothing spicing up the lyrics like singing does in other genres except the lyrics.

btw, check your Saul Williams thread.

Really? How long have you been listening to hip hop? Remember, I was born 4 years before you tongue

I've been hippin' my hop for a while too lol

Ok, I will never say that again, sorry sadwalk

Btw, Joker, if you listen to poetry all the time, what turns you away from Saul Williams? When you say poetry I assume you mean spoken word and so I am seriously puzzled as to why you wouldn't like Saul Williams when he's quite possibly the greatest spoken word poet ever, but if you are talking about traditional poetry, I understand.

Ok, then who is the greatest spoken word poet of all time? Btw, the only acceptable answers other than Saul Williams is Jack Kerouac, Gil Scott Heron, the Last Poets or the Watts Prophets biggrin

Either way, Saul is easily top 3 of today. He is the most sought after poet in the world right now too. And I personally like him better than Gil Scott Heron, the Last Poets and Watts Prophets. I'd say Kerouac might have a slight edge though. Oh, I almost forgot Patricia Smith! She's DOPE! But seriously, he's a hip hop artist. Anyone denying that is on crack.

If I'm your man, does that make you my maiden biggrin

Man, I really still prefer A LOT of Saul's work. I mean I've heard similarly simple poems that were MAGNIFICENT (even written a few.. quite a few) like "We Real Cool" by Gwendolyn Brooks (which I'd say trumps anything I've heard from Saul Williams), but that wasn't it. That was like a watered down version of "We Real Cool" actually, and ftr I like The Last Poets, but they aren't better than Saul Williams imo and that poem was... meh.
