Quote (eboyd) Luda and Cham are actually decent. A lot of real heads consider them real. Nothing special and if anything fence riders, but nonetheless, for the most part real. And Kanye's beats are fucking ill and his rapping on College Dropout was decent too. Actually.. word..

Their rhymes aren't very good imo actually but they get deep sometimes and create memorable songs. It's not all about lyrics dude. You have to also factor in flow, delivery, subject matter, beat choice, what artists they choose to collab with, and most importantly, is the song actually real or does it just sound like some BS (usually mostly dictated by all of the former factors)? There is a certain sound and/or vibe to commercial (notice, I didn't say mainstream) rap that sounds formulaic, pre-fab and phony, like it was made specifically to sell a lot of units. It's hard to explain. And the line between what's "real" and what's not isn't very clear either. There is a gray area, just like everything in life. People like Lil Wayne and TI aren't in that gray area though on the exception of a few songs here and there. They fit comfortably in the commercial/pop rap genre.

Quote (Lord_Meth) yea but you keep talking bout him being pop and wat not but Im judging these type of artists by their lyrical....well I see it different probably cuz I dont have as much coperate knowledge and stuff like you but Im talking about...why cant we just look at lyrics? somehow the fact they are commercial block most cats from that. I mean like with Em...he may be a commercial artist but he's one with RAW ASS lyrics...Ludacris may be commercial but he has some heavy punches Why cant the underground look at that? it's not musical it's CULTURAL if they don't keep to the cultural side of hip hop they don't recognize them as hip hop even tough they make hip hop Meth people don't take hip hop as a music genre people take it as a culture whit values ethics the whole package and if you don't follow the tradition your not hip hop it's a cultural thing

Nothing was pop about it. But the Underground made it seem like it was because of the hype with the East vs. West beef, thats being unbiased too

Is that non-Hip Hop too?

Is that non-Hip Hop too? that has nothing to do whit what we just talked here and if he's killing your culture why even show respect to him ? he's cutting others from taking their bread many don't know but these people stop the artistic development of hip hop and stopping the artistic development of hip hop means stopping the food from coming to the table the food comes just to them classic monopolization

I agree. All Eyez On Me was dope. Pac was real. Those are the type of cats I hate. However, Nas has been collaborating with Lil Wayne, Young Jeezy, Chris Brown, Rick Ross, etc. and his beat selection on "Untitled" was fucking wack and he had pop producers (Cool & Dre) gave him a wack ass beat and he actually used it. He's out there for fame right now and nothing more. Common's rhymes on UMC were wack and his beat selection was pretty fucking commercial as well. That's why people call them sellouts. There is a reason for all of them being called that.

Come on man. The lyrics on the title song to UMC were fucking on some Flo-Rida shit almost. It sounded like he spent about 3 minutes writing that shit. The beats throughout, minus one or two, fucking sucked. The album was produced by all commercial producers as well.
