Just curious what your favorite samples are? Are there any you feel take a song from being just good to great?

Mine are below:
Killah Priest ft. Main Flow- The Rain

Also all the songs that sampled this:

A WELL DRESSED SKELETON SLOWLY CUTS YOUR THROAT.

"I Have No Fear Whatsoever of Anybody or Anything" -Malcolm X

“those who consider themselves the most adamant adherents of “real” hip-hop can also be the least knowledgeable.” –Adilifu Nama; an excert from his perception of Nas’s “Genesis”

agreed! jazz artists love it when hip hop artists sample their shit because it brings relevance back to their music. here are some of my favorite samples:

these two have been used too many times to count:

here's one i plan to use (the verse will be the section from 1:03 to 1:05 and i'll use one of the sax sections for the hook):

and here's one that my friend Mnemonic flipped. dude is a genius on the beats:

i gave him this one and he flipped it as well. he hasn't posted it yet though. it's going to be on his new album:

i wouldn't doubt it. it was most famously (and first) used in "Ain't No Half Steppin'" by Big Daddy Kane. after that, other tracks that used it include:

N.W.A - "Real Niggaz Don't Die"
Black Moon - "Jump Up"
Lootpack - “Long Awaited”
Tim Dog - “ Compton” (like you said)
Gang Starr - “Take a Rest” (again, like you said, and i see you posted it on YouTube lol)
Tupac - “Troublesome” (this one SHOCKED me)

...anyways, here's a decent sized list of songs that sample the track:

http://www.theinsider.com/news/863593_Know_Your_History_ESG_s_UFO

and there's a pretty substantial list of artists who have "Nautilus" by Bob James sampled in their work as well:
