reasonable doubt, marketing, money

Jay-Z is good but i think its because he does songs with popular R&B singers to carry his album.

eg. his two big singles off his new album were featuring Rihanna, and Empire State of Mind which featured Alecia Keys, and he's married to Beyonce, if any rapper released singles with rihanna, beyonce, alecia keys they would always do well. its not about talent, its about who gets a guest apperance and what producers you have on the album.

but also he is already popular anyway so i guess he could just fart and record it and people would still buy that album. simply because its Jay-Z. compared to most commercial rappers Jay-Z is a lyrical genius, so to those who don't know many other hip hop MC's thats probably what they think of Jay-Z.

Lol most jay fans don't even know about reasonable doubt. So no I doubt that was the meat of his success. But yeah it was just plain marketing.

Preach Brothers !! :D . Yeah he made a classic album some good hip hop in his time but ruthless marketing and a good businessman ethic made this dude . Of course his fans will say otherwise but let's be serious the dude is a businessman rather then an artist .

he's good with his own business, not so good when it comes to the other artists on his label though.

He been able to stay around for so long because everyone buys his bullshit. Other than Em and Wayne, he's the only other guy with the most downloaded songs and/or album sales. Plus, since he's from NY, that makes him attract more stans. (Stalker + Fan)

I agree with all of the above. Every bit of it to a degree or another. Also, welcome to our newest member Andre3000. Thanks for the input :)

Jay-Z is more about his money than his lyrics....ALTHOUGH he does spawn some clever quotables....(mainly in his early career before he officially become a mogul)..his rhymes used to be hot

I agree with all of the above, but he also has adapted to the game.
Just look at it. He went from doing some shit like D'Evils to doing NY state of mind. He kept his unique style, but always adapted to an extent.
