i agree with a lot of that, but the article doesn't say concious rap died, i think concious hip hop definitely needs a place, but just not too tacky or preachy, i like a lot of concious hip hop

this guy had a good comment "I don't think a lot of you, including the writer of this article have really sat down and defined what you mean when you say "Conscious Rap" or "Conscious Rapper". Just think about it... because cause all you really mean is "Not absolutely ignorant". The article, in so many words, reffers to Gucci Mane's one introspective album track as a 'Conscious moment'. It's a myth made up by people who like hearing only dumb shit. It's like you have a meter, and whenever a rapper says something that isn't dumb i.e (gangsterism, materialism, masogyny) that counts against them as a "Conscious point" and the rappers that have the most are conscious moments. If you actually go back and listen to niggas bodies of work, you would see that shit you consider conscious, had the duality you're talking about. it's just too much "Non Dumb" shit for you to stand so you lable it. Mind sex is not a conscious song!! does everything have to be "Wait till you see my DICK"?"

Quote At worst, Conscious Rap was dreadfully corny and heavy-handed with the messages. From Tribe’s “Ham ‘N’ Eggs,” a few dozen horrible imitations, and even my beloved dead prez with the throwaway “Mind Sex.” This article kinda pisses me off..and I ask of all songs by Dead Prez he used the example mind sex. He could've used They Schools, or Hip-Hop, or even any other song on Let's Get Free... Quote anytime someone says something is dead, it gets publicity. yea, Nas defiantly proved this.
Because I'm cool like dat. I'm chill like dat. I'm peace like dat.

This is somewhat off topic, but I noticed something about KRS saying that hiphop was going to go back to the fundamentals. FALSE. I hate to break this to you, but Afrika Bambaata style hiphop is never coming back. G Funk is never coming back. Crunk is done. Autotune is out. Jerkin is done. (I am not saying Crunk and Autotune were golden areas of hiphop or anything. You should understand what I am implying.) Anyways, soon something new will come around. A new fad. It won't be Sugerhill Gang type shit either.
Life's a bitch and I'm just along for the ride.

Quote (ilikebacon3000) Autotune is out you haven't been listening to the radio much, eh? lol. i don't blame you. i just am forced to hear that shit every day because of my sister and her friends and autotune is far from dead. shit is on like every song even still, along with Lil Wayne, Drake and/or Kanye. Quote (ilikebacon3000) Anyways, soon something new will come around. A new fad. It won't be Sugerhill Gang type shit either. agreed. i think it may be a hybrid of old shit with new, like it sort of was when people started using Run DMC type beats again for a short while like 2 years ago. but on the underground level we will continue to see resurgences of old styles and people elevating from them though.
