who is your favorite emcee and why? what is it about that one emcee that makes you choose him over other emcees.

i don't mean who do you think is the best but what rapper do you enjoy listening to the most and what is it about that rapper that makes you enjoy listening to him more?

mostly lyrical skill, subject matter, versatility and consistency. flow, beats, voice etc is second rate

To me it doens't matter about subject matter anymore, or lyrical skill. Just as long as they can keep me entertained thats all that matters. I like the wild abstract lyrics, the ones that are really creative.

well ok sure lyrical creativity is better, but I think any creativity is good. Like mf doom and dr. octagon.

When Im looking in a good MC, I look for subject diversity, if I can relate to anything he's saying, has a good ear for beats (not just hard-knocking beats but musically orchestral, strings, piano-type music), if he has dope multi-syllables, if he can phrase his words masterfully in each bars (in other words dope rhyme scheme), and when it comes down to boasting they need to have clever, but not to over-the-head metaphors.

originality, so after someone listens to a song they dont say," he sounds like so-and-so". obviously beats have nothing to do with it. i really like when rappers use complex multis but there are plenty of good rappers that dont do that so its not that big of a deal. Delivery, style, and story telling and songs with certain concepts is also a plus.

First thing for me is a delivery. I can't stand listening to rapper a when he's bubbling. Then I'd say lyrics - they must have something catchy, like metaphors, cliff hangers, wordplay, good similes and clever, good or pretty good rhyme scheme (but if rapper is able to get my attention by shit he says, his rhyme scheme doesn't have to be complex, matter fact it could be even simple). Subject matter is next. Basically, if lyricist is good enough, he could get an attention even if he rhyme about buying a cabbage, potatos, oranges, apples, tomatos, bananas, peaches, plums, watermelons, pumpkins, grapes, grapefruits etc LMAO
I don't mind listening to the same subject matter over and over if it's written well tho'.

The only subject matter I don't like is money rap. It's kinda pathetic how underground emcee, who's actually broke or got a little paid, spits how he uses dead presidents to wipe his motherfucking broke crab ass after taking a crap. C'mon dudes lol

Then it's all about flow. It doesn't have to be a double time flow of flowing like a Nile, all I want is a clever flow for a dope lyrics. If you got dope lyrics and ANY flow, I can listen to you... Other words, if you got eardrums, you'll be able to flow, just use your fucking eardrums if you have them and practice. Oh, obviously 9th Prince doesn't have any LOL

I don't have to say anything about the beat because it's important as fuck. Like Meth said, not only hard knocking fucking beats, I like more musical shit, and I love old school shit (with samples from '30s '40s and '50s like 4th Disciple's "Swinging Swords" and "Cinematic")

And I'd blast all these cocksucking kids who are judging lyrics only by punchlines, like if it doesn't have good punchlines then it sucks. Punchlines are like a boullion and a soup. You can add it to get a clearer taste, but boullion could never really make the whole soup. Fuck you motherfucking kids.

personally i like mc's that have catchy lyrics and rhymes that just have to make you go "shit"
the beat of the song matters completely too. if he flows nicely on it then excellent, sometimes they flop and it sounds like ass, but hey that's my opinion

i also like sorta 'smart' lyrics, not dumb ass lyrics
