Is it his looks, or his voice that make him seem like he's good? I really dont understand why Snoop is so popular. Is it because he is a "pimp" and smokes weed that makes him cool? Cuz lyrically he isnt all that great not to mention his flow where he just says three words and just pauses for a while after it. "Bitch please Now what you need to do is Hand my coat And roll me some dope Different strokes, for different folks Oh, you like settin' Niggas up and gettin' them loc's Oh, cute little bitch with a whole lot hard Shit get thick when the lights get dark She said she got some lick for me Worked about 200 G's and 30 keys Now check this out Dre Snap if I don't move Then a Nigga like me Shit I don't lose But you know me Dogg I'm movin' Ain't nothin' to it, but to get the groovin' You've been waitin' on a Nigga like me To take your chance and ride with men and beat up the pussy A victim off the circumstance That's the devil They always wanna dance See we grow up with a bang I'm tryin' to work this cold thing And take this whole thing I get the money everywhere that I go I bust a bitch and take here money for sure I get the money everywhere that I go I bust a bitch and take here money for sure" "Imagine you was up on top of this shit Imagine if the bitches could stay off this dick I mean imagine we said fuck this shit Imagine if my niggaz got together and tow up this bitch, yeah" Anyone else in the same boat as me?

Snoop Dogg was only liked by hip hop heads for his early work, to me Doggystyle is a classic album and his first song released Deep Cover is a classic song. Snoop was very unique when he came out and had a unique voice and persona. But there's no doubt its the commercialism which pushed his career, his persona made him very marketable and the only reason he gets anywhere these days is by selling out. At the time of Doggystyle Snoops lyrics were decent, they weren't as lyrical as G Rap or Rakim but they were quite decent and i'd say his lyrics were actually more lyrical or at least on par with guys like Masta Ace or even ATCQ in 93, definitely better than Phife Dawg imo. Snoop is also a good freestyler off the top, i'd say he's a better off the top freestyler than KRS-One who sucks at freestyling compared to the real good freestylers out there. But Snoops lyrics never got better from there, actually i think they got worse but i think he's stayed on top by being the biggest sellout in rap. After Doggystyle every album that followed from Snoop was considered a disappointment, all the way up until R&G which had huge mainstream success, but even that wasn't liked by a lot of his fans who wanted the gangsta rap of 93, so Snoop did come back with Tha Blue Carpet Treatment which was considered his best album since Doggystyle. But then unfortunatley Snoop followed that with more wack shit on Ego Trippin, i think Snoop thought it was because of his age or because he hadn't moved with the time because what he did on his latest album Malice In Wonderland was even worse, he sold out even further by doing modern day mainstream shit with soulja boy etc changing his sound and going back on what he had said about soulja boy in 06 when he came out. But yeah Snoop is very overrated by the mainstream who do not get to hear real or underground hip hop, so they don't know any better, i know this was definitely the case with me, i didn't know about most of the emcee's i know about now so i used to think Snoop was the greatest until i discovered more hip hop. Do you realize that Snoop Dogg pretty much invented all corniness about g-funk? Before it was corny, he invented it. Him and Eazy-E are by far the inventors of all corny on the west side scene. It wasn't up until the California underground movement that the West Coast was seen as a place with cultural growth rather than a bunch of illiterate gangbangers. Look at all albums before Doggystyle and you'll get me. This is coming from a West Side fan that knows the hard ass truth. And, for me, Doggystyle and Tha Blue Carpet Treatment are his best work, besides the things he did with Tha Dogg Pound early years Though, his label is doing great on recovering that dying West scene.

doggystyle is classic. what made him popular too fans back in the day IMO was his lack of fear against the prodimently east coast ran rap game and the fact that doggystyle was one of the greatest albums in westcoast history, arguabley in hip hop period. im with you in todays sense though. cant rhyme for shit and raps about typical shit, 'bitches' weed and....... well thats about it. Quote (NtG) o, i just now made a topic about it. I've thought this way for a while, I realized when people told me doggystyle was a good album, but for some reason i couldnt get into it. Its cuz snoop sucks LMAO Doggystyle is a classic, you just have to take it for what it is. It's not Super lyrical, neither is the Chronic for that matter but it's the production that makes them dope. Snoop Dogg's never been "all that" lyrically, he was half-decent but then got whack, but his style was really unique when he came out like Emseed said, and I don't think him rapping on Doggystyle took anything from it, lol.

Snoop isnt a "lyrical" MC tho so I can understand that. He's much like Slick Rick and Method Man when it comes to "persona" they just have that swag and appeal that carries their careers. Tho I do agree about him being extremely corny and being a sellout, but I REFUSE to take away his impact on Hip Hop with Doggystyle and G-Funk. Lol that's too much of a title to take away and besides, he earned it. Now today, the same thing is pretty happening with Wiz Khalifah. He reminds me alot of Snoop because of his persona and weed smoking appeal. I think he's gonna be the next Snoop for my generation.
