what was the first hip hop songs you ever heard? and i mean like when you were 5-7 years old, be honest now, unless you're over 30 don't lie and say it was some underground shit :D , what are the first hip hop songs you remember ever hearing?

the first songs i remember hearing was when i was 5 years old, it was 1993 and these songs had just come out

later like every other little kid my age i got into these :D

when my aunty played the bone thugs album in front of me i remember being shocked and laughing coz it was the first time i had ever heard swear words on an album, up until then i didn't even know people were allowed to swear in songs. and the bone thugs album had a lot of swearing in it

when i was a kid 2pac, biggie, wu-tang, snoop dogg were really popular among the islanders in my school, but i really only knew them by name i had never listened to their music, i heard some snoop dogg through my auntry and later got into the gin & juice song, but that was about 1997. i remember everyone debating over whether 2pac was really dead or if that was just a scene in a movie he did as well lol. i also remember when the Hit Em Up song had just come out too, the whole bad boy vs death row beef

First rapping I heard was from a local rapcore band called MC-Hár. Flow nice, instruments great, lyrics just wrong. They played the nastiest songs I've ever heard.

i remember my brother playing some MC Hammer back in like 1989/90 when i was like 2 or 3 and he even had a pair of Hammer pants lol. but my parents bought me the album after the one with "You Can't Touch This" so i got more into "Too Legit To Quit" instead. then when i was like 5 i heard "They Reminisce Over You", "Tennessee" by Arrested Development, "Rock 'Dis Funky Joint" by Poor Righteous Teachers, and "Rump Shaker" by Wreckx-n-Effect. when i was in elementary and middle school i started skateboarding and heard a lot of old school and underground tracks in skate videos that i would later recognize when i started really getting into real hip hop in high school. some included "Mass Appeal", "Simon Says" (Pharaohe Monch), "Oh No" (Mos Def, Nate Dogg, Pharaohe Monch), "3000" (Dr. Octagon), the entire "36 Chambers" album, and Common's album "Like Water For Chocolate", which was basically my gateway into the underground hip hop. sadly i wasn't into hip hop, however, until 1998 when i heard "Mo Money Mo Problems" which i see as pretty much wack now lol. around the same time i remember seeing the "Triumph" video by Wu Tang and liking it but it didn't get me into the music like Biggie's song did. anyways, also around that time (obviously a little later though) i had a friend who got me into the Hieroglyphics, Souls of Mischief, and A Tribe Called Quest. i was also, at that time, due to "Mo Money..." transforming me into a fan of hip hop more than any other music, becoming a hardcore 2pac dickrider lol. i remember being one of those people who used to stay up at night thinking of what island 2pac was hiding on and contemplating when he would come out of hiding LMAO! i even went as far as to say if i had a time machine and could only go back in time once i would go back to warn 2pac about what was about to happen to him hahahahaha! at first 2pac and Snoop Dogg were my favorite emcees but Pac won out. anyways, because of 2pac i watched the movie Juice and because of it i decided to learn about Rakim. while in high school Rakim became my favorite emcee alongside 2pac and eventually became my only favorite emcee before i found out about Percee P. the song that turned me into a real hip hop fan beyond any other though was "Classic" (Kanye, Nas, Rakim, KRS, with Premier on the beat).

so yeah, that's the story of my introduction to hip hop. here are some of the tracks i heard in each stage of my development as a hip hop head that basically mark each period in my life as a hip hop head:

The first Hip Hop song I heard had to be Criss-Cross Jump, Jump! Lol And my dad used to be a Hip Hop head so he played alot of Dogg Pound, Snoop, Dr. Dre around me but I was only like...3-4 so I didnt think much of it then.
My sis used to play TLC around me and the earliest song I remember was Creep by TLC. And she used to play Usher around me alot.

But the thing that got me truly into Hip Hop was fucking Big Willy Style - Will Smith, Dogg Food - DPG and 2001 - Dr. Dre
The year was...2005. It was the summer and I was into Runescape back in those days. So Im downstairs on the computer and I see this deck of CDs on the desk. I scrumage thru it and I see..Outkast, Jamie Foxx, Dre, Ice Cube, Shaq, and Will Smith..I was playing around so I put in the Will Smith CD and i was like....This shit is actually nice! Then I played that DPG and I fell in love with New York, New York.
But still throughough Jr. High I listened top the mainstream hip hop while listening to ppl like Nas (moderately), Jay-Z, Snoop, u kno...Then the summer going to my 9th grade year, I stumbled upon RHHF then I joined and the first Real Hip Hop song I listened to was Protect Ya Neck by Wu-Tang and I was hooked. I dug up more Wu-shit then listened to Mobb Deep, Biggie Smalls, 2 Pac and the rest was just straight old school 90's shit. Then u guys kicked up the site and I was searching the threads and u guys were talking about Canibus, Jedi Mind Tricks, Immortal Technique, AZ, Chino XL, and Ras Kass. And in that order I downloaded their albums (The first time I became a pirate) and thats what got me into underground Hip Hop.
