And Adam, Odd Future has been around since 2008, the same year that Untitled dropped. They didn't start gaining major popularity until "Yonkers" dropped though and that was this year.

If the question is what is harder to do, it's underground. If it's what's rougher on the artist, it's mainstream. It's a bad generalization, but in hip hop it's mainly like this. I'm thinking of artistic inspiration and motivation, and I differentiate between the artist and the person. The underground cat will in most cases be motivated by self expression, so the artist is in good shape, opposed to the mainstream rapper, who is blinded by money, and the artist is absent. It's a harsh generalization, and I can't even say that it's usually like this, because I really don't know, but for the sake of the argument, you know, it's a theory. In actuality it varies between everyone, whether money changes them or not.

Real talent comes from the underground regardless of the music genre, look at music today, its prefabricated by Disney and company. These corporations began to literally create stars, even 50 Cent came from the underground and for a very brief time had some good songs, talent comes from the underbelly of shit and piss its not created by business moves, marketing and other shit.
