No, I'm not mad. What album is a better candidate for being called overrated than the most highly rated hip hop album of all time? For me it doesn't even make top 15.

And btw, OB4CL wasn't THAT bad. It just doesn't hold a torch to 36 Chambers and LS. Also, I don't see anything in Rae's lyrical ability. The entire album rides on the shoulders of guest stars.

Quote (Lord_Meth) If Illmatic isnt number 1 then it falls no lower than number 2 and Me Against the World is number 3 Cuz Illmatic was phenomonal!!!!! look, i recognize that everyone feels Illmatic is the greatest album in hip hop history, but i personally wouldn't put it higher than my top 30. there are 10 tracks and the only ones that do anything for me are: NY State Of Mind The World Is Yours Memory Lane One Time For Your Mind Represent It Ain't Hard To Tell that is 6 of 10. the rest sound ridiculously aged and off-putting. however, i recognize that everyone else loves this album and it is unanimously the greatest album in hip hop history. in short... The People's Top 5 List: 1. Illmatic 2. 36 Chambers 3. Liquid Swords 4. OB4CL 5. Paid In Full My List: 1. Liquid Swords 2. 36 Chambers 3. Perseverance 4. Like Water For Chocolate 5. Madvillainy

Haltime, to me, was ruined by the line "my style switches like a faggot." that line was so off-putting to me that i just can't listen to that track. the beat to "One Love" and Q-Tip's chorus are overrated to me. Q-Tip has produced MUCH better ("Electric Relaxation" was the pinnacle of his production).

Quote (eboyd_) The People's Top 5 List: 1. Illmatic 2. 36 Chambers 3. Liquid Swords 4. OB4CL 5. Paid In Full Yeah NY's top 5 list, we should call the forum "rechhf" (real east coast hip hop forever) , Straight Outta Compton, the Chronic, Me against the world or All Eyez On Me, AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted, the Predator, The Resurrection, Doggystyle, Regulate...G Funk Era... Liquid Swords , just ask some hip hop heads about this album and then ask them if they know the chronic or all eyez on me and wich one is better lol, tracks like Nuthin' but a 'G' Thang, Regulate or It was a good day!!! vs. Liquid Swords omg...50 years from now ten times more people will remember that west coast tracks than Liquid Swords. And "Nuthin' but a 'G' Thang" is not the only great track on The Chronic "Fuck wit Dre Day", "Let me ride"(whole record)...don't gonna mention 2pac's hits...to much... I'm still more into east than west, but if u ask around the globe u will find Illmatic in the top 5 but never Liquid Swords. As well as i have an Ace album in my top 5 list, most people would ask who the fuck he is...

Quote (Kriptah-Knite) no illmatic was and probably still is the most overrated album in hip-hop history hell even all eyes on me wasnt as overrated naw dre's chronic was as overrated as illmatic no, OB4CL is, the only song i liked on it was VERBAL INTERCOURSE!! you know why?? cuz NaS (the artist who put out illmatic) was on it, and spit one of the greatest verses in hip-hop history. ICe Cream is th only other decent song on it. I could toss illmatic in and leave it on repeat all day and just vibe.

Master2K, for most part the people who remember those I don't give a shit about. Those are mainstream fans and people who aren't even hip hop fans. Sure, if you ask an emo who likes a little hip hop here and there he will tell you that "Fuck The Police" by NWA or "Nuthin' But A G Thang" by Dre are the greatest songs in hip hop history when all is said and done, but why should I give a shit what they think? Are they even qualified to have an opinion on hip hop? I don't think so. They don't have enough knowledge to have a valid opinion. It's like if I was to watch football and the only team I knew was the Raiders and I said they were the best in football atm. Would that opinion be valid or even laughable and no one would take it seriously. It is the same here. If you don't know all the classic albums in the game your opinion is not valid. That is why even on MTV's lists you see Paid In Full, 36 Chambers, It Takes A Nation..., etc. How many kids who listen to SB or don't listen to anything hip hop related do you think have heard of any of those? 1 out of 100? Maybe 2? Not even the people who are responsible for the lack of knowledge on hip hop give a shit about the opinions of the generation in hip hop that they created.
