CHEAP!!??!!!!! Did you know the average cost for clearing a sample is about $10,000 a track!!! Back in the day like in 93 the average price was $1000. If you're an underground cat I don't think $10,000 is cheap. Can you imagine how much money you would have to pay to clear sample heavy albums Like DJ Shadow's "Endtroducing" or Jay Dee's "Donuts" or even The Beastie Boy's album with samples 100+ "Paul's Boutique???? Now a days the only people who sample are people who can afford it like Kanye or Jay-z. Underground artist take a huge risk in not clearing their samples. They could get one heck of a law suit *Cough*madlib*Cough *

back in the day was cheap, that's why they used it, back in the day people just listened to music and artists that were sampled just gave thanks for being noticed by the young generation. Now days is money , copyright and BULLSHIT. If artists now days would actually MAKE SOME DAMN MUSIC instead of worrying about copyright, then shit would be swell

i hate the MIDI type beats with no samples that they try to pass off as beats. it seems to me alot of the underground artists just use samples and say fuck it, sue us. i could be wrong, but i have a hard time for example thinking Lucasfilm cleared the usage of Star Wars music on Jawa breaks, or the tracks Esoteric and Celph Titled did. Maybe someone who knows can break it down.

Quote (MarXman) Maybe someone who knows can break it down. If you use public domain samples, you could. Besides that, the only way to not get sued is to fucking clear them. I'm one of the "fuck it, sue me" underground cat, and yes, i do know I'm getting in some deep shit, but they ain't gonna knock down my creativity. Plus, i think we could use the "fair use", but, that ain't going to happen.
