its not a quote that makes the difference between them its a whole god damn concept in the middle if you look at it even in their words you can hear the difference

that's part of it.

an emcee is a representative of hip hop culture. a rapper is a representative of corporate interests. an emcee can be a rapper. a rapper will NEVER be an emcee.

so technically in that light we can actually call Lil Wayne and 50 Cent emcees because they show they have that potential, but they don't use it often. again though, you can argue they both care so much about the corporate interests that they will never be classified as emcees, and i agree with that. Soulja Boy, on the other hand, is undoubtedly a rapper.

this is what i mean on the other thread, you can call most rappers emcees because they show potential orr you can go the other end of the spectrum and put people like big l, luda and busta rhymes as rappers

just an exampleeeeee dont jump down my throat at it

nah, L and Busta are emcees. most of their music is hip hop, but they both have some rap under their belts. Luda is borderline. half of his shit is rap, half is hip hop. he's hard to categorize.

as Common said, "dope music is dope music and it's all good" and i recognize when any artist makes dope shit. i hate Wayne, but i LOVED "Georgia Bush" and thought "Tie My Hands," "Hustla Muzik," "1000 Degreez," and "Shooter" were pretty dope too, but that is it. the rest is garbage.
