2pac most definitely was not the most influential of all time. Just the most popular. No one has influenced hip hop (especially when it came to emceeing) as much as Rakim. Even 2pac himself looked up to Rakim and was influenced by him. Shit, 2pac sounded like a wannabe Rakim before he hooked up with/when he first hooked up with DU. And though I love Pac and can say that he deserves a ranking within the top 100, I would have to say that, being an ex-stan of his and someone who is no longer biased in either direction, I can't put him in my top 10. It may just be a change in taste for style, maybe I grew up. His style just seems a bit unrefined and undaring to me now. Like it is too rough (not like "I'm a bad ass" rough, but unrefined rough) or maybe a bit underdeveloped. Idk. All I know is that he had some great songs and he had the whole package as an emcee except lyricism, but something just didn't strike me right. Oh, and his poetry is corny to me now as well. There's like a cliche' behind it which almost always equates to poorly written poetry.

Read 2pac and then read TS Eliot, John Donne, William Blake... Pretty much any of the great poets... Hell, even Saul Williams... I guarantee if you truly study it and learn what great poetry is you will find that Pac was less than mediocre, just as people who have never heard anything but Lil Wayne sometimes listen to underground hip hop and realize how much higher the quality of the music is and start calling Lil Wayne subpar.

FUCKING HYPOCRITE!!! Great works of art are great works of art relative to other great works. There is no argument here. You want to hold a high standard and disclude people like "Lil Wayne" from the greatest emcee list? Then this is the standard you need to hold. Otherwise we can say anyone is great... In relation to poop. It's like Juelz Santana said, "I'm flyer than an ostrich". Truest words he ever spoke. He's "fly" as hell... In comparison to a flightless bird; he's dope as fuck... Compared to wacker rappers. Same with 2pac. He was almost a decent poet... But he was GREAT compared to the popular rappers and emcees... Especially considering he, at the time, was the only popular emcee into poetry. But Talib is better (check for "Heaven and Hell"), Lauryn Hill ("Motives and Thoughts"), Alicia Keys ("P.O.W.: Prisoner Of Words"), Mos Def, Common, Sage Francis, etc. These emcees are all superior when it comes to poetry. In fact I'm confident I'm better as well (of course I feel that I'm better than 99% of famous/infamous hip hop artists, so...).

Quote (eboyd) of course I feel that I'm better than 99% of famous/infamous hip hop artists, so...). i hope you ONLY mean in writing traditional poems and not in actuall rapping, or i hope you were just kidding. I'm not dissing you or anything i'm just saying even if you actually thought that you shouldn't say it lol.

I'm talking about my ability to write poetry and nothing more. It is not a reflection on how good my poetry is, but rather on how poorly written most poetry that hip hop artists write is. I'd say Saul Williams and maybe Sage Francis, from the works I've heard, are the only hip hop artists whose poetry is superior to mine. People who write poetry within the realm of hip hop usually don't write their poetry very well. Their performance of said poetry is stellar though.

Why???? Obviously you haven't an inkling of a clue what you are talking about, especially after I wrote that it has NOTHING to do with my ego and, if anything, it has to do with exactly the opposite of that. I'm saying that my poetry is better than shitty poetry. How is that having a big ego?

jadakiss is more of an emcee that's better on an freestyle or featuring guest on a song, he's average with an overall album though.
