this sounds like some science fiction shit, but, unfortunately, it is a well-documented fact that this actually occurred. the scariest facet of this scandal is that, while the operation began in 1945, it wasn't brought to widespread public attention until 1975, in part because a large portion of the US government knew about the operation but was covering it up.
